PM’s address in the 126th Episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’

| Published on:

My dear countrymen,

Connecting with all of you on “Mann Ki Baat,” learning from you, and learning about the achievements of the people of our country, truly is a delightful experience for me. While sharing our thoughts with each other; sharing our “Mann Ki Baat”, we didn’t even realize that this program has completed 125 episodes. Today it’s the 126th episode of this program, and this day holds some special significance. Today is the birth anniversary of two illustrious personalities of India. I am referring to Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Lata Didi.

Friends,

The immortal martyr Bhagat Singh is an inspiration for every Indian, especially the youth of the country. Fearlessness was deeply ingrained in his nature. Before getting hanged for the sake of the country, Bhagat Singh ji had written a letter to the British.

He had said, “I want you to treat me and my comrades as prisoners of war. Therefore, our lives should not be taken away by hanging, but directly with a bullet.” This is a testament to his indomitable courage. Bhagat Singh ji was also very sensitive to the sufferings of the people and was always at the forefront in helping them. I respectfully pay my tribute to Shaheed Bhagat Singh ji.

Friends,

Today is also the birth anniversary of Lata Mangeshkar. Anyone interested in Indian culture and music cannot help but be moved by her songs. Her songs comprise everything that stirs human emotions. The patriotic songs she sang inspired people greatly. She also had a deep connection with Indian culture. I offer my heartfelt tribute to Lata Didi. Friends, among the great personalities who inspired Lata Didi, one was Veer Savarkar, whom she called Tatya. She also lent her voice to many of Veer Savarkar ji’s songs.

My bond of affection with Lata Didi has always remained intact. She used to send me a Rakhi every year without fail. I remember Sudhir Phadke, the legendary figure of Marathi light music, first introducing me to Lata Didi, and I having told her that I loved the song “Jyoti Kalash Chhalke,” sung by her and composed by Sudhir Ji.

Friends, do enjoy it with me.

My dear countrymen,

During this time of Navratri, we worship Shakti. We celebrate the festival of woman power. From business to sports, from education to science, take any field—the daughters of our country are making a mark everywhere. Today, they are overcoming challenges that are difficult to even imagine. If I were to ask you this question: could you stay at sea for eight months straight? Could you travel 50,000 kilometers in a boat with a rudder, that is, a boat that moves with the speed of the wind, and that too when the weather at sea can turn foul at any time?

You would think a thousand times before doing that, but two brave officers of the Indian Navy have accomplished this during the Navika Sagar Parikrama. They have demonstrated what courage and a steely resolve are. Today, I would like to introduce these two brave heart officers to the listeners of ‘Mann Ki Baat’. One is Lieutenant Commander Dilna and the other is Lieutenant Commander Roopa. Both these officers are connected with us on the phone line.

Prime Minister – Hello.

Lieutenant Commander Dilna – Hello Sir.

Prime Minister – Namaskar Ji.

Lieutenant Commander Dilna – Namaskar Sir.

Prime Minister – So, with me are both Lieutenant Commander Dilna and

Lieutenant Commander Roopa. Are both of you there?

Lieutenant Commander Dilna and Roopa – Yes, Sir, both of us.

Prime Minister – Well, Namaskaram and Vanakkam to both of you.

Lieutenant Commander Dilna – Vanakkam Sir.

Lieutenant Commander Roopa – Namaskaram Sir.

Prime Minister – Well, first of all, the countrymen want to hear about the two of you. Please tell us.

Lieutenant Commander Dilna – Sir, I am Lieutenant Commander Dilna. And I am from the logistics cadre in the Indian Navy. Sir, I was commissioned in the Navy in 2014, Sir, and I am from Kozhikode in Kerala. Sir, my father was in the army and my mother is a housewife. My husband is also an officer in the Indian Navy, Sir, and my sister works in the NCC.

Lieutenant Commander Roopa – Jai Hind Sir, I am Lieutenant Commander Roopa and I joined the Navy in 2017 as a Naval Armament Inspection cadre. My father is from Tamil Nadu and my mother is from Pondicherry. My father was in the Air Force Sir, actually I got inspiration from him to join the Defence and my mother was a home maker.

Prime Minister – Well Dilna and Rupa I would like to know from you that the country wants to hear about your experience in Sagar Parikrama and I am sure that this is not an easy task… you must have faced many difficulties; you must have had to overcome many problems.

Lieutenant Commander Dilna – Yes Sir. I want to tell you that Sir, once in a life time we get such an opportunity which changes our life Sir and this circumnavigation was such an opportunity for us which was given to us by the Indian Navy and the Indian Government and in this expedition we sailed approximately 47500 (forty seven thousand five hundred) kilometers Sir. We left from Goa on 2nd October 2024 and returned on 29th May 2025 and it took us 238 (two hundred thirty eight) days to complete this expedition Sir and for 238 (two hundred thirty eight) days we were just the two of us on this boat Sir.

Prime Minister – Hmm hmm

Lieutenant Commander Dilna – And Sir, we prepared for the expedition for three years. From navigation to how to operate communication emergency devices, how to do diving, and how to manage any kind of emergency on the boat, such as a medical emergency. The Indian Navy trained us on all of this, Sir. And I want to say the most memorable moment of this trip, Sir, is that we hoisted the Indian flag at Point Nemo, Sir. Point Nemo is the most remote location in the world, Sir. The closest person to it is at the International Space Station. We became the first Indian, the first Asian, and the first person in the world to reach there in a sailboat, Sir, and this is a matter of pride for us, Sir.

Prime Minister – Great, many congratulations to you.

Lieutenant Commander Dilna – Thank you, Sir.

Prime Minister: Does your colleague also want to say something?

Lt. Commander Rupa: Sir, I want to say that the number of people who have circumnavigated the world by sailboat is much less than the number of people who reach Mount Everest. And in fact, the number of people who circumnavigate on a sailboat alone is much less than the number of people who have gone to space.

Prime Minister: Well, such a complex journey requires a lot of teamwork, and there you were the only two officers in the team. How did you manage it?

Lt. Commander Rupa: Yes Sir, for such a journey, both of us had to work hard together, and as Lt. Commander Dilna said, to achieve this, only the two of us were on the boat, and we were boat repairers, engine mechanics, sail-makers, medical assistants, cooks, cleaners, divers, navigators, and everything had to be done together. And the Indian Navy made a huge contribution to our achievement. And they gave us all kinds of training. Actually, Sir, we have been sailing together for four years, so we know each other’s strengths and weaknesses very well. That’s why we tell everyone that there was one piece of equipment on our boat that never failed, and that was the teamwork of both of us.

Prime Minister: Well, when the weather was bad… since this is a world of oceans where the weather is unpredictable; how did you handle that situation?

Lt. Commander Rupa: Sir, there were many adverse challenges throughout our journey, Sir. We had to face many challenges in this expedition. Especially, Sir, the weather is always bad in the Southern Ocean. We had to face three storms as well, and Sir, our boat is only 17 meters long and its width is only 5 meters. So sometimes there were waves that were higher than a three-story building, Sir. And we faced both extreme heat and extreme cold during our journey. In Antarctica, Sir, when we were sailing, the temperature was 1 degree Celsius and we had to face winds at 90 km/hr. And to protect ourselves from the cold, we used to wear 6 to 7 layers of clothes at a time and we crossed the entire Southern Ocean wearing such 7 layers of clothing, Sir.

And sometimes we used to warm our hands with a gas stove, Sir, and sometimes there are situations when there is no wind at all and we keep drifting with the sails completely down. And in such situations, actually Sir, our patience is tested.

Prime Minister – People will be amazed to hear that the daughters of our country are displaying such fortitude. Well, during this circumnavigation, you also stopped by in different countries. What was the experience there? When people would see two daughters of India, they must’ve been inquisitive about so many things!

Lt. Commander Dilna – Yes sir, we had a great experience, sir. We stayed at four places in eight months, Sir; Australia, New Zealand, Port Stanley and South Africa, Sir.

Prime Minister – What was the average stay at each place?

Lt. Commander Dilna – Sir, we stayed for 14 days, sir, at one place.

Prime Minister – 14 days at one place?

Lt. Commander Dilna – Correct, sir. And sir, we saw Indians in every corner of the world, very active and with great confidence, bringing glory to India. And we felt that whatever success we had, Sir, they considered it as their own success as well. We had myriad experiences everywhere, like in Australia, when the Speaker of the Western Australian Parliament invited us, he motivated us a lot, and things like this always happen, Sir, and we were very proud. And when we went to New Zealand, the Maori people welcomed us and showed great respect for our Indian culture, Sir. And one important thing, Sir, is that Port Stanley is a remote island, Sir. It’s near South America. The total population there is only 3,500, Sir, but there we saw a mini India, and there were 45 Indians there. They treated us as their own and made us feel at home, Sir.

Prime Minister: Well, what message would you both like to give to those daughters of the country who, like you, want to do something different?

Lieutenant Commander Rupa: Sir, I am Lieutenant Commander Rupa speaking right now. Through you, I want to tell everyone that if anyone works hard with all of one’s heart, nothing is impossible in this world. Where you are from or where you were born doesn’t matter at all. Sir, it is our wish that the youth and women of India dream big and that in the future, all girls and women bring glory to the country by joining defense, sports, and adventure.

Prime Minister: Dilna and Rupa, listening to you, I am thrilled to hear about the tremendous courage you have shown. My heartfelt thanks to both of you. Your hard work, your success, and your achievements will undoubtedly inspire the youth and girls of the country. May you continue to wave the tricolor like this. I wish you all the best for your future endeavors. My best wishes.

Lieutenant Commander Dilna: Thank you Sir.

Prime Minister: Vanakkam | Namaskaram |

Lieutenant Commander Rupa: Namaskar Sir |

Friends,

Our festivals and celebrations keep India’s culture alive. Chhath Puja is a sacred festival that comes after Diwali. This grand festival dedicated to the Sun God is very special. In this, we offer Arghya to the setting sun also and worship it. Chhath is not only celebrated in different parts of the country, but its splendor is seen all over the world. Now, it is turning into a global festival.

Friends,

I am very happy to inform you that the Government of India is also engaged in a major endeavour connected with Chhath Puja. The Government of India is striving to include the Chhath Mahaparva in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List. When Chhath Puja is included in the UNESCO list, people in every corner of the world will be able to experience its grandeur and divinity.

Friends, some time ago, on account of similar efforts by the Government of India, Kolkata’s Durga Puja also became a part of this UNESCO list. If we accord our cultural events such global recognition, the world will also know about them, understand them, and come forward to participate in them.

Friends,

The 2nd of October is Gandhi Jayanti. Gandhiji always emphasized on the adoption of Swadeshi, and Khadi was the most prominent among them. Unfortunately, after independence, the charm of Khadi was fading away, but during the last 11 years, the country’s attraction towards Khadi has increased significantly. Khadi sales have seen a surge in recent years. I urge all of you to buy one Khadi product or the other on the 2nd of October. Say it with pride these are Swadeshi. Share it on social media with #Vocal for Local.

Friends,

Just like Khadi, our handloom and handicraft sector is also witnessing significant changes. Today, many examples are emerging in our country that show that when tradition and innovation are fused together, amazing results can be achieved. One example is Yaazh Naturals in Tamil Nadu. There, Ashok Jagdishan ji and Prem Selvaraj ji left their corporate jobs and took up a new initiative. They made yoga mats from grass and banana fiber, dyed clothes with herbal dyes, and provided employment to 200 families by training them.

Ashish Satyavrat Sahu of Jharkhand has brought tribal weaving and garments to the global stage through the Johargram brand. Thanks to his efforts, people in other countries have also become aware of Jharkhand’s cultural heritage.

Sweety Kumari, from Madhubani district in Bihar, has also started Sankalp Creations. She has transformed Mithila painting into a means of livelihood for women. Today, over 500 rural women have joined her and are on the path to self-reliance. All these success stories teach us that our traditions hold innumerable sources of income. If our resolve is strong, success cannot elude us.

My dear countrymen,

In the next few days, we will be celebrating Vijayadashami. This Vijayadashami is special for another reason. This day marks 100 years of the foundation of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. This journey of a century is as amazing and unprecedented, as it is inspiring. When the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh was founded 100 years ago, the country had been bound by the chains of slavery for centuries.

This centuries-long slavery had deeply hurt our self-respect and self-confidence. The world’s oldest civilization was being made to face an identity crisis. Our countrymen were becoming victims of inferiority complex. Therefore, along with the country’s independence, it was also important that the country be freed from intellectual slavery. In this context, the most revered Dr. Hedgewar began to ponder over this issue; and for this herculean task, he founded the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami in 1925. After Dr. Saheb’s passing, Param Poojya Guruji carried forward this great yagya of service to the nation. Param Poojya Guruji used to say, “Rashtraya Swaha, Idam Rashtraya Idam Na Mam,” meaning, “This is not mine, this belongs to the nation.” It inspires us to rise above self-interest and embrace dedication to the nation. This statement by Guruji Golwalkar has shown millions of volunteers the path of sacrifice and service. This spirit of sacrifice, service, and the discipline it teaches is the true strength of the Sangh. Today, the RSS has been relentlessly and tirelessly engaged in national service for over a hundred years.

That is why, we see, whenever a natural disaster strikes anywhere in the country, RSS volunteers are the first to reach there. This spirit of “nation first” always remains paramount in every action and every endeavor of millions of volunteers. I extend my best wishes to every volunteer who is dedicating oneself to this great yagya of service to the nation.

My dear countrymen,

Next month, the 7th of October is Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. We all know how great a foundation Maharishi Valmiki is to Indian culture. It was indeed Maharishi Valmiki who introduced us extensively to Avatar Kathas of Bhagwan Ram. He presented humanity with the marvellous epic of the Ramayan.

Friends,

This influence of the Ramayan is on account of the ideals and values of Bhagwan Ram enshrined in it. Bhagwan Ram embraced everyone with a spirit of service, harmony and compassion. That is why we feel that the Ram of Maharishi Valmiki’s Ramayan is complete only with Mata Shabari and Nishadraj.

That is why, friends, when the Ram temple was erected in Ayodhya, a temple dedicated to Nishadraj and Maharishi Valmiki was also built alongside it. When you visit Ayodhya to see Ram Lalla, I urge you to visit the Maharishi Valmiki and Nishadraj temples.

My dear countrymen,

The most special thing about art, literature, and culture is that they are not confined to any one realm. Their fragrance transcends all boundaries and touches people’s hearts. Recently, “Sauntkh Mandapa,” a cultural institute in Paris, completed 50 years. This centre has made a significant contribution in popularizing Indian dance. It was founded by Milena Salvini, who was awarded the Padma Shri a few years ago. I heartily congratulate all those associated with “Sauntkh Mandapa” and wish them all the best for their future endeavors.

Friends, I am now playing two short audio clips for you. Do pay attention to them:

#Audio Clip 1#Audio 2.mp3

Listen now to the second clip:

#Audio Clip 2#Audio 3.wav

Friends, these sounds bear witness to how Bhupen Hazarika’s songs connect different countries around the world. In fact, a very commendable effort has been made in Sri Lanka. In this, Sri Lankan artistes have translated Bhupen Da ji’s iconic song “Manuhe-Manuhar Baba” into Sinhala and Tamil. I played you the audio of these very songs. A few days ago, I had the privilege of participating in his birth centenary celebrations in Assam. It was truly a memorable event.

Friends, amidst Assam celebrating the birth centenary of Bhupen Hazarika, a few days ago, a moment of sadness too descended. People are mourning the untimely demise of Zubeen Garg.

Zubeen Garg was a renowned singer who made his mark across the country. He had a deep connection with Assamese culture. Zubeen Garg will always remain etched in our memories, and his music will continue to captivate generations to come.

Zubeen Garg // Asil

Ahomor Hamoskritir // Ujjol Ratno…

Janotar Hridayot // Teyo Haday Jiyay // Thakibo |

[Translation: Zubeen was the Kohinoor (the brightest gem) of Assamese culture. Though he is physically gone from our midst, he will remain forever in our hearts]

Friends,

A few days ago, our country also lost the great thinker and philosopher, S. L. Bhyrappa. I had personal contact with Bhyrappa, and we had in-depth conversations on various topics on several occasions. His works will continue to guide the thinking of the younger generation. Translations of many of his Kannada works are also available. He taught us how important it is to be proud of our roots and culture. I pay my heartfelt tribute to S.L. Bhyrappa ji and urge the youth to read his oeuvre.

My dear countrymen,

In the coming days, festivals and joys are coming up, one after another. We do a lot of shopping on every occasion. And this time, a ‘GST Bachat Utsav’ is also going on.

Friends,

You can make your festivals even more special by taking a resolve. If we decide to celebrate this festival only with Swadeshi products, you will see the joy of our celebrations rise manifold. Make ‘Vocal for Local’ your shopping mantra. Resolve, that for all times, you will buy only what is produced in the country. You will take home only what is made by the people of the country. You will use only those goods which bear the toil of a citizen of the country. When we do that, we don’t just buy goods; we bring home hope to a family, honor the hard work of an artisan, and give wings to the dreams of a young entrepreneur.

Friends,

During festivals, we all engage in cleaning our homes. But cleanliness shouldn’t be limited to the four walls of our homes. Cleanliness should become our responsibility everywhere – in the streets, neighborhoods, markets, and villages.

Friends,

This entire season is a time of festivities in our country, and Diwali becomes a grand festival. I extend you good wishes on the upcoming Diwali, but I also reiterate: we have to become self-reliant, we have to make the country self-reliant; and the path to that lies only through Swadeshi.

Friends,

That’s all for this time in ‘Mann Ki Baat’. I’ll meet you again next month with new stories and inspiration. Until then, best wishes to all of you. Thank you very much.

The sole reason for the lack of development in Naxal-affected areas is Naxalism itself: Amit Shah

| Published on:

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah addressed the valedictory session of ‘Bharat Manthan-2025: Naxal Mukt Bharat – Ending Red Terror Under Modi’s Leadership’ in New Delhi today.

CR3_1877.JPG

On this occasion, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah said that India will be free from Naxalism by March 31, 2026. He said that the fight against Naxalism will not end until Indian society understands those who provide ideological, legal, and financial support to Naxalism. He emphasized that internal security and the protection of the nation’s borders have always been a core part of our ideology. He further said that three key objectives have been central to our party’s mission: internal and external security of the country, cultural nationalism, and the revival of all aspects of Indian culture. Union Home Minister paid his respects to all those who sacrificed their lives, lost their loved ones, and endured physical and mental hardships due to Left-wing violence since the 1960s. He said that Naxalism thrived in West Bengal until the Left parties came to power, and as soon as they did, Naxalism disappeared from there.

Shri Amit Shah said that when Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi took office, three major hotspots—Jammu & Kashmir, the Northeast, and the Left-Wing Corridor—had severely disrupted the country’s internal security. He said that for nearly four to five decades, thousands of people had lost their lives due to the unrest that emerged and spread in these three regions, there was significant property damage, a large portion of the country’s budget was diverted from the development of the poor to managing these hotspots, and security forces also suffered immense loss of life. He stated that upon becoming Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi focused on these three hotspots and worked based on a clear, long-term strategy.

Union Home Minister said that a significant transformation has occurred during the 10-year tenure of the Modi government. He stated that Naxalism and armed rebellion began in the early 1970s. In 1971, independent India witnessed a peak of 3,620 violent incidents. Subsequently, in the 1980s, the People’s War Group expanded its reach to Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Kerala. He added that after the 1980s, Left-wing groups started merging with each other, and in 2004, the major CPI (Maoist) group was formed, leading to Naxal violence taking a very serious form. He said that the corridor from Pashupati to Tirupati was known as the Red Corridor.

Shri Amit Shah said that 17 percent of the country’s territory was encompassed by the Red Corridor, affecting a population of 120 million. At that time, 10 percent of the population was living under the scourge of Naxalism. Shri Shah said that in comparison, the other two hotspots—Kashmir, with 1 percent of the country’s territory affected by terrorism, and the Northeast, with 3.3 percent of the territory grappling with unrest—were less extensive. He said that when Shri Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014, the Modi government began working on the three aspects of dialogue, security, and coordination. As a result, by March 31, 2026, armed Naxalism will be eradicated from the country.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation said that whereas earlier work was done with a scattered approach, responses were incident-based and there was no permanent policy. In a way, one could say the steering of the government’s response was in the hands of the Naxalites. Shri Shah said that after 2014 the steering of the government’s campaigns and programmes rests with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India and this is a very significant policy change.

Shri Amit Shah said that instead of a scattered approach, the Modi government has adopted a unified and ruthless approach. He added that the policy of our government is to roll out the red carpet and welcome those who wish to surrender by laying down their arms, but if anyone takes up arms to kill innocent tribals, the government’s duty is to protect the innocent tribals and to confront the armed Naxalites.

Shri Amit Shah said that for the first time, the Government of India adopted a clear policy without any confusion. He said that the state police and central security forces were given freedom, and a practical bridge was built between the Government of India and the state governments for coordination in intelligence, information sharing, and operations. He added that strict control was imposed on the supply of arms and ammunition of Naxalites. After 2019, we have succeeded in blocking more than 90 per cent of their supply. He said that the NIA and the ED have tightened the noose around those who finance the Naxalites, and that we have also fought against urban Naxal support, their legal aid networks, and the crafting of media narratives. He said we took targeted action against members of the central committee, and more than 18 central committee members have been neutralized from August 19 to this date.

The Home Minister said the security vacuum has also been filled, and targeted operations such as Operation Octopus and Operation Double Bull were carried out. He added that joint training of the DRG, STF, CRPF and COBRA units has also been initiated. The four now carry out operations together and their chain of command is now clear. He said integrated training has made a big difference to our success. Alongside this, forensic investigations were started, a location-tracking system was made available, mobile-phone activity was shared with state police, scientific call-log analysis software was developed, and social-media analysis was used to uncover their hidden supporters. This not only sped up the anti-Naxal campaign but also made it more successful and result-oriented.

CR5_9046.JPG

Union Home Minister said that after 2019, emphasis was also placed on capacity building of states. Under the SRE and SIS schemes, approximately ₹3,331 crore was released, reflecting a 55 percent increase. Through this, fortified police stations were expanded, with around ₹1,741 crore spent on them. He stated that over the last six years, the Modi government established 336 new CAPF camps to address the security vacuum. As a result, compared to the period of 2004–14, the period of 2014–24 saw a 73 percent reduction in security personnel deaths and a 74 percent reduction in civilian deaths. Shri Shah said that earlier, success was elusive in Chhattisgarh due to the opposition government there. However, in 2024, after our government came to power, the highest number of Naxalites—290—were neutralized in a single year.

The Home Minister said that we do not want to kill anyone. Compared to the 290 Naxalites neutralized, 1,090 were arrested, and 881 surrendered. He stated that this reflects the government’s approach. Every effort is made to give Naxalites the opportunity to surrender or be arrested. However, when Naxalites take up arms and set out to kill innocent Indian citizens, security forces have no choice but to respond with force. Shri Shah said that in 2025, so far, 270 Naxalites have been neutralized, 680 have been arrested, and 1,225 have surrendered. In both years, the number of surrenders and arrests exceeds the number of those neutralized. The high number of surrenders indicates that the time left for Naxalites is now very limited.

Shri Amit Shah said that Naxalites had established a large camp at Karregutaa Hills on the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border, which housed a significant stockpile of weapons, two years’ worth of rations, and factories for manufacturing weapons and IEDs, and was extremely difficult to access. He stated that on May 23, 2025, this camp was destroyed in Operation Black Forest, and 27 hardcore Naxalites were killed. Furthermore, 24 hardcore Naxalites were killed in Bijapur. The Home Minister said that through this operation, the backbone of the remaining Naxalites in Chhattisgarh was broken. Shri Shah noted that among the Naxalites neutralized in 2024, 1 was Zonal Committee member, 5 Sub-Zonal Committee members, 2 State Committee members, 31 Divisional Committee members, and 59 Area Committee members.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation said that from 1960 to 2014, there were a total of 66 fortified police stations, and in the 10 years of the Modi government, 576 new fortified police stations were established. In 2014, there were 126 Naxalite-affected districts, which have now reduced to 18. The number of most-affected districts has decreased from 36 to 6. The number of police stations has gone down from approximately 330 to 151, of which 41 are newly established. In the last six years, 336 security camps have been set up, and 68 helipads for night landings have been constructed. Moreover, 76 night-landing helipads have been built for CRPF personnel. He stated that to curb the financial resources of Naxalites, the NIA, ED, and state governments have seized properties worth crores of rupees. The Home Minister said that for coordination with state governments, 12 meetings with Chief Ministers have been held at his level, with 8 meetings specifically in Chhattisgarh. The Chhattisgarh government has introduced an attractive package for Naxalite surrenders. He added that several development initiatives have been undertaken in Left-Wing Extremist areas. The Home Minister remarked that wherever Leftist ideology has taken root globally, it has had an inseparable link with violence, and this is the root of Naxalism.

Shri Amit Shah said that those who propagate the idea that the root cause of Left-Wing Extremism is lack of development are misleading the nation. He said that Prime Minister Modi has launched numerous schemes for 60 crore poor people, but in Naxal-affected areas, who prevents these schemes from reaching the people? He asked, if schools have not reached Sukma or Bijapur, who is responsible? Why have roads not been built in Left-Wing dominated areas? Because the Naxalites killed the contractors. Shir Shah asked why don’t intellectuals who write lengthy articles advising the government write about the victimized tribals? Why is their empathy selective? He said that neither the supporters of the Naxalites want the development of the tribals, nor do they genuinely care for them. Instead, they are only concerned with keeping alive their ideology, which has been rejected across the world. Shri Shah stated that the sole reason development has not reached these areas is the Leftist ideology.

Union Home Minister said that the Naxalites first targeted the Constitution and then the judicial system. They created a constitutional vacuum, then attacked the very idea of the State, and created a vacuum of the State itself. He said that anyone who did not join them was branded as an informer of the State and sentenced to death in their so-called people’s courts. They even established a parallel government. Shri Shah said that for the welfare of the nation, it is necessary to rise above one’s ideology. He added that it was precisely due to this governance vacuum that development, literacy, and healthcare facilities could not reach those areas.

Union Home Minister said that during Operation Black Forest, Leftist political parties wrote letters pleading to stop the campaign, exposing their true face. He said that there will be no ceasefire with the Naxalites. If they want to surrender, there is no need for a ceasefire — they should simply lay down their arms. The police will not fire a single shot and will reintegrate them. He said that as soon as Operation Black Forest began, all the covert sympathies of the Naxalites’ supporters were exposed.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation said that between 2014 and 2024, 12,000 kilometers of roads have been constructed in Left-Wing Extremism–affected states, budgets have been approved for 17,500 roads, and 5,000 mobile towers have been installed at a cost of ₹6,300 crore. He said that 1,060 bank branches have been opened, 937 ATMs installed, 37,850 banking correspondents appointed, 5,899 post offices opened, 850 schools established, and 186 well-equipped health centers set up. He further said that under the NiyadNellanar scheme, the Chhattisgarh government is working on approving Ayushman Bharat cards, Aadhaar cards, voter cards, the construction of schools, ration shops, and Anganwadi centers.

Referring to insurgency in the Northeast, the Home Minister said that compared to 2004–2014, the period 2014–2024 has seen a 70 per cent reduction in the deaths of security personnel. Similarly, civilian deaths have dropped by 85 per cent in 2014–2024 compared to 2004–2014. The Modi government facilitated 12 important peace agreements and brought 10,500 armed youths into the mainstream by securing their surrender. He said that there was a time when the entire Northeast felt cut off from the rest of the country, but today it is connected through trains, railways, and air travel. Shri Shah said that the Modi government has reduced not only the physical distance but also the emotional distance between Delhi and the Northeast. He added that today the Northeast is moving forward on the path of peace and development.

Union Home Minister said that in Jammu & Kashmir, Article 370 was abrogated in 2019 under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. After that, the government systematically earned the trust of the people through development, education, health, and poverty alleviation initiatives. He said that in the face of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in Kashmir, the Modi government acted under a well-planned policy. Shri Shah stated that compared to 7,300 violent incidents during 2004–2014, there were 1,800 violent incidents in 2014–2024. Deaths of security personnel decreased by 65 per cent and civilian deaths by 77 per cent. He added that every law of the country is now being implemented there. For the first time since independence, Panchayat elections were held in Jammu & Kashmir, with a voter turnout of 99.8 per cent. Shri Shah said that we are gradually moving forward on the path to resolving the problem of terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of development works worth over Rs 60,000 crore in Jharsuguda, Odisha today. Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister offered his respectful greetings to all the distinguished dignitaries present at the event. Highlighting that the festival of Navratri is currently being celebrated, Shri Modi expressed that during these auspicious days, he was fortunate to visit the sacred land of Maa Samalei and Maa Ramachandi and meet the people gathered there. He noted the presence of a large number of mothers and sisters at the event, stating that their blessings are the true source of strength, offering his salutations to the people.

Recalling that during the Assembly elections one and a half years ago, the people of Odisha had resolved to move forward with a new commitment—towards a developed Odisha, Shri Modi observed that today, Odisha is progressing rapidly with the momentum of their governments at the Centre and State. He announced the commencement of projects worth thousands of crores for the development of Odisha and the nation. Shri Modi unveiled the new avatar of BSNL, marking the launch of its indigenous 4G services. He stated that the expansion of IITs across various states is also beginning today. Additionally, he highlighted the foundation stone laying and inauguration of several projects in Odisha related to education, skill development, and connectivity. He flagged off the modern Amrit Bharat train from Berhampur to Surat, underlining the great benefit to the people. Shri Modi also acknowledged the presence of Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, Electronics & IT, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, who had connected virtually from Surat, Gujarat. He extended his heartfelt congratulations to the people of Odisha for all these development initiatives.

“Our government is committed to serving and empowering the poor, and our focus is on delivering basic amenities to the underprivileged, including Dalits, backward classes, and tribal communities”, stated the Prime Minister. He noted that today’s programme stands as a testament to this commitment. Shri Modi shared that he had the opportunity to hand over approval letters to beneficiaries under the Antyodaya Griha Yojana. He remarked that when a poor family receives a pucca house, it transforms not only their present but also the future generations. Underlining that their government has already provided more than four crore pucca houses to poor families across the country, the PM said in Odisha, thousands of houses are being constructed at a rapid pace, and he commended the Chief Minister Shri Mohan Majhi and his team for their commendable efforts. The Prime Minister announced that today, nearly fifty thousand families have received approval for new homes. Under the PM Janman Yojana, over forty thousand houses have been sanctioned for tribal families in Odisha, fulfilling a major aspiration of the most marginalized among them. He extended his best wishes to all beneficiary families.

Expressing his enduring faith in the capabilities and talent of the people of Odisha, the Prime Minister noted that nature has blessed Odisha abundantly. While acknowledging that Odisha has endured decades of poverty, he affirmed that the coming decade will usher in prosperity for its people. To achieve this, the government is bringing major projects to the state. He announced that the Central Government has recently approved two semiconductor units for Odisha, and a semiconductor park is also set to be established, crediting the strength and potential of the youth of Odisha. Shri Modi envisioned a future where the small chip used in phones, televisions, refrigerators, computers, cars, and many other devices will be manufactured in Odisha.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s resolve to achieve self-reliance in every domain—from chips to ships. He stated that a vast industrial corridor is being developed from Paradip to Jharsuguda. Emphasizing the strategic importance of shipbuilding, he noted that any nation aspiring for economic strength must invest in this sector, as it benefits trade, technology, and national security. Shri Modi explained that having indigenous ships ensures uninterrupted import-export operations even during global crises. The Prime Minister announced a major initiative by their government—a ₹70,000 crore package for shipbuilding in India. He projected that this would attract ₹4.5 lakh crore in investments, reaching sectors such as steel, machinery, electronics, and manufacturing, especially benefiting small and cottage industries. He highlighted that this would generate millions of new jobs and bring significant advantages to Odisha’s industries and youth.

“India has taken a significant step towards self-reliance”, exclaimed Shri Modi, recalling that when telecom services like 2G, 3G, and 4G were introduced globally, India lagged behind and remained dependent on foreign technology for these services. He emphasized that such a situation was not suitable for the country, which led to a national resolve to develop essential telecom technologies indigenously. The Prime Minister expressed pride that BSNL has successfully developed a fully indigenous 4G technology within India. He lauded BSNL’s dedication, perseverance, and expertise in creating this milestone. He further highlighted that Indian companies have now positioned India among the select five countries in the world that possess completely indigenous technology to launch 4G services.

The Prime Minister noted the coincidence that BSNL is celebrating its 25th anniversary today. On this historic occasion, he highlighted that through the dedicated efforts of BSNL and its partners, India is advancing towards becoming a global telecom manufacturing hub. He stated that it is a matter of pride for Odisha that BSNL’s indigenous 4G network is being launched from Jharsuguda, comprising nearly one lakh 4G towers. These towers are set to usher in a new era of connectivity across remote regions of the country. Shri Modi emphasized that the expansion of 4G technology will directly benefit over two crore people nationwide. He added that approximately thirty thousand villages, which previously lacked high-speed internet access, will now be connected through this initiative.

The Prime Minister stated that thousands of villages are virtually connected to witness this historic day, listening and watching through high-speed internet. He mentioned that Union Minister for Communications, Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia was also joining from Assam.

Highlighting that BSNL’s indigenous 4G services will benefit tribal regions, remote villages, and hilly areas the most, Shri Modi affirmed that people in these regions will now have access to quality digital services. Children in rural areas will be able to attend online classes, farmers in distant locations will be able to check crop prices, and patients will find it easier to consult doctors through telemedicine. The Prime Minister added that this initiative will also greatly benefit our armed forces personnel, enabling them to communicate securely through enhanced connectivity.

Underlining that India has already rolled out the fastest 5G services, the Prime Minister noted that the BSNL towers inaugurated today are readily equipped to support 5G services as well. He extended his heartfelt congratulations to BSNL and all citizens of the country on this historic occasion.

Emphasising that a skilled youth and a robust research ecosystem are essential for building an Atmanirbhar Bharat, Shri Modi stated that this is a major priority for their government. He highlighted the unprecedented investment being made in education and skill development across the country, including Odisha. The Prime Minister announced that engineering colleges and polytechnics are being modernized, and launched a new scheme named MERITE to support this effort. Under this scheme, thousands of crores will be invested in technical education institutions. He remarked that this will eliminate the compulsion for youth to migrate to big cities for quality technical education. Instead, they will have access to modern labs, global skill training, and startup opportunities within their own towns.

The Prime Minister stated that unprecedented efforts are underway to ensure that facilities reach every sector, every community, and every citizen of the country. He highlighted that record levels of investment are being made to achieve this. Reflecting on the past, he remarked that people are well aware of the previous situation, asserting that the opposition never missed an opportunity to exploit the public.

Shri Modi stated that in 2014, when the people entrusted the government with the opportunity to serve, their administration successfully liberated the country from the exploitative system of the opposition. He remarked that under their government, a new era of double savings and double earnings has begun. He contrasted the past, noting that during the previous dispensation regime, employees and businesspersons had to pay tax even on incomes up to ₹2 lakh. In contrast, he highlighted that today, individuals earning up to ₹12 lakh annually are not required to pay even a single rupee in income tax.

Mentioning that new GST reforms have been implemented nationwide, including in Odisha, from 22nd September 2025, the Prime Minister described these reforms as a gift of savings for all, especially making kitchen expenses more affordable for mothers and sisters. He stated that the prices of most essential items have significantly reduced. Illustrating with an example, he explained that a family in Odisha spending ₹1 lakh annually on groceries and other essentials used to pay ₹20,000–₹25,000 in taxes under the then ruling government before 2014. After the introduction of GST by their Government in 2017, this tax amount was reduced and now, the tax burden has been brought down substantially, with families paying only ₹5,000–₹6,000 annually. He emphasized that compared to the opposition era, families now save ₹15,000–₹20,000 per year on such expenses.

Affirming that Odisha is a land of farmers and highlighted that the GST Savings Festival is highly beneficial for them, the Prime Minister recalled that during the opposition era, farmers had to pay ₹70,000 in tax when purchasing a tractor. With the introduction of GST, the tax was reduced, and under the new GST structure, farmers now save approximately ₹40,000 on the same tractor. He added that machines used for paddy transplantation now offer a saving of ₹15,000, power tillers ₹10,000, and threshers up to ₹25,000. Shri Modi emphasized that their government has significantly lowered taxes on numerous agricultural tools and equipment.

Noting that Odisha is home to a large tribal population, which depends on forest produce for livelihood, the Prime Minister noted that the government has already been working for kendu leaf collectors and has now significantly reduced GST on this item, ensuring better prices for the collectors. He emphasized that their government is consistently providing tax relief and increasing savings for citizens, while accusing the opposition of continuing exploitative practices. Shri Modi alleged that opposition-led governments are still engaged in looting the public. He highlighted that when the new GST rates were implemented, the tax on cement was also reduced to make home construction and repairs more affordable. He pointed out that after 22nd September, cement prices dropped even in Himachal Pradesh. However, he claimed that the ruling government in Himachal imposed an additional tax on cement, depriving people of the benefit. The Prime Minister warned that wherever the opposition party governs, exploitation follows, and urged citizens to remain cautious of the party.

Shri Modi stated that the GST Savings Festival has brought the greatest joy to mothers and sisters. He emphasized that serving women and daughters is a top priority for the government, with a strong focus on their health. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by mothers for their families, noting how they bear every hardship to shield their children and often hide their own illnesses to avoid burdening the household with medical expenses. The Prime Minister highlighted that this is precisely why the Ayushman Bharat Yojana was launched, which has significantly benefited women by providing free medical treatment up to ₹5 lakh.

Emphasising that a healthy mother leads to a strong family, Shri Modi highlighted the nationwide launch of the “Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar” campaign from 17th September 2025. He informed that over eight lakh health camps have been organized across the country under this initiative, with more than three crore women undergoing health screenings. These camps are facilitating diagnosis for diseases such as diabetes, breast cancer, tuberculosis, and sickle cell anemia. He urged all mothers, sisters, and daughters in Odisha to ensure they get their health check-ups done.

The Prime Minister reiterated that their government is continuously working to enhance the strength of the nation and its citizens—whether through tax relief or modern connectivity—by paving the way for convenience and prosperity. He noted that Odisha is reaping significant benefits from these efforts, with six Vande Bharat trains currently operational in the state and modernization underway at nearly sixty railway stations. He added that the Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Jharsuguda is now connected to several major cities across India. Odisha is also receiving substantially higher revenue from minerals and mining. Shri Modi mentioned that the Subhadra Yojana is consistently supporting the women of Odisha. He affirmed that Odisha is firmly on the path of progress and assured that the pace of development will accelerate further. He concluded by extending his best wishes to all.

The Governor of Odisha, Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, Union Minister Shri Jual Oram were present among other dignitaries at the event. Several Union Ministers and Chief Ministers from across the country were connected to today’s programme through videoconferencing.

Background

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated multiple development projects worth over Rs.60,000 crore in Jharsuguda. These projects span across telecommunications, railways, higher education, healthcare, skill development, rural housing sectors, among others.

In the field of telecom connectivity, the Prime Minister commissioned more than 97,500 mobile 4G towers built at a cost of around Rs.37,000 crore with swadeshi technology. This includes more than 92,600 4G technology sites commissioned by BSNL.  Over 18,900 4G sites have been funded under the Digital Bharat Nidhi which will connect around 26,700 unconnected villages in remote, border, and left-wing extremism-affected areas, serving over 20 lakh new subscribers. These towers are solar-powered, making them India’s largest cluster of green telecom sites and a step forward in sustainable infrastructure.

Prime Minister laid the foundation stone and dedicated to the nation important railway projects that will boost connectivity and regional growth. These include foundation stone for Rail Flyover at Sambalpur–Sarla, dedication to the nation of the doubling of the Koraput–Baiguda line, and the Manabar–Koraput–Gorapur line. These projects will significantly improve freight and passenger movement in Odisha and neighbouring states, strengthening local industries and trade. On the occasion, the Prime Minister will also flag off the Amrit Bharat Express between Berhampur and Udhna (Surat), providing affordable and comfortable connectivity across states, supporting tourism, creating employment opportunities, and linking key economic districts.

Prime Minister laid the foundation stones for the expansion of eight IITs—Tirupati, Palakkad, Bhilai, Jammu, Dharwad, Jodhpur, Patna, and Indore—at an investment of around Rs.11,000 crore. The expansion will create capacity for 10,000 new students over the next four years and will establish eight state-of-the-art research parks, thereby strengthening India’s innovation ecosystem and providing a strong push to research and development.

Prime Minister launched the MERITE scheme designed to improve quality, equity, research, and innovation in 275 state engineering and polytechnic institutions across the country.

Prime Minister also launched Odisha Skill Development Project Phase II which will establish World Skill Centres in Sambalpur and Berhampur, covering emerging sectors such as AgriTech, Renewable Energy, Retail, Marine, and Hospitality. Further, five ITIs will be upgraded into Utkarsh ITIs, 25 ITIs will be developed as Centres of Excellence, and a new Precision Engineering Building will provide advanced technical training.

To enhance digital education in the state, Prime Minister dedicated Wi-Fi facilities across 130 higher education institutions, providing free daily data access to benefit more than 2.5 lakh students.

Healthcare infrastructure in Odisha will also receive a significant boost during the Prime Minister’s visit. He laid the foundation stone for the upgradation of MKCG Medical College in Berhampur and VIMSAR in Sambhalpur into world-class super-speciality hospitals. The upgraded facilities will include enhanced bed capacity, trauma care units, dental colleges, maternal and child care services, and expanded academic infrastructure, ensuring comprehensive health services for the people of Odisha.

In addition, the Prime Minister distributed sanction orders to 50,000 beneficiaries under the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana. The scheme provides pucca houses and financial assistance to vulnerable rural families, including persons with disabilities, widows, individuals suffering from terminal illness, and victims of natural calamities. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring social welfare and dignity for the most disadvantaged sections of society.

BJP National President addresses Kerala BJP State Office Bearers Meeting in Kollam, Kerala

| Published on:

Hon’ble Bharatiya Janata Party National President and Union Minister Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda addressed BJP State office Bearers in Kollam, Kerala on Saturday. During his address, Shri Nadda highlighted the BJP’s development initiatives in Kerala and across India, emphasizing the transformative governance under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, including reforms like next-generation GST, social welfare schemes, and infrastructure projects. He criticized the state government for corruption and non-performance while praising BJP’s ideological consistency and mass-based approach. During the event, Kerala BJP In-charge Kerala BJP State President Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Former Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar, Kerala bjp co-in charge Smt. Aparajita Sarang, Former State President, BJP Kerala Shri Kummanam Rajasekharan, Union Minister Shri George Kurian among the dignitaries present on and off the dais, including the newly elected and nominated office bearers and members of the executive committee were present.

Shri Nadda expressed his deep homage to Anandavalli Sram Mahadev Mandir, the historic Shiva temple, acknowledging its significance as a place of worship for the people. He also paid tribute to the late K. Anil Kumar. Shri Nadda conveyed, on behalf of the central leadership, through Shri Rajiv Chandrasekhar, full support for the success of Kerala BJP. He also acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of former Kerala BJP President Shri K. Surendran, under whose leadership the party won its first Lok Sabha seat in Kerala. Shri Nadda expressed his happiness that the Kerala BJP has committed itself to the welfare of the state, with the goal of a Viksit Keralam clearly articulated. He extended his sincere good wishes to the Kerala BJP in this endeavor. Highlighting the broader national perspective, he observed that for decades, political parties in India, particularly the Indian National Congress and, in Kerala, the Left parties, had followed politics rooted in division, casteism, and appeasement. He noted that a transformative shift occurred in 2014 when Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji assumed office, bringing a new discipline and culture to governance. Previous political approaches focused on appeasement and dividing society, but in 2014, when Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji assumed office, a new discipline and governance culture was established. Under his leadership, the Bharatiya Janata Party adopted the guiding principles of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas, transforming the party’s approach to development and governance. This marked a fundamental shift in Indian politics changing not only governance but also the culture and functioning of political parties. Today, India’s politics is centered on development, and this vision extends to Kerala through the goal of a Viksit Keralam. Under Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s, governance moved from a system prone to anti-incumbency to one emphasizing pro-incumbency, as policies were designed to be pro-people with good governance. He further stressed that all initiatives consider the “3 S’s”: speed, scale, and skill, ensuring impactful and efficient implementation.

Hon’ble BJP National President stated that under Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji’s leadership, the Government of India has become a responsive, responsible, and accountable government; a government of “report cards.” This new political culture of accountability and performance emerged only after 2014, replacing the earlier politics dominated by appeasement, caste, division, and vote-bank strategies. Today, leaders are expected to report on tangible development outcomes, reflecting a culture of responsibility and transparency established by the Bharatiya Janata Party under Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji. Unlike in the past, when manifestos were largely symbolic and often forgotten, the current approach ensures that promises are actively implemented and measured, reinforcing a governance model centered on results for the people. Earlier, political manifestos were merely ritualistic documents  re-issued every five years with new covers and fresh jargon but little substance. In contrast, under the Bharatiya Janata Party, the manifesto has become a mandate, a commitment that serves as the foundation for governance, with the party working diligently to fulfill each promise made to the people. This is a defining difference in the BJP’s political culture. All political parties today have lost their ideological moorings. The Left no longer upholds true leftist ideals, the Right has drifted from its principles, and centrist parties have lost their balance. There is a trend today that all political parties are shrinking into regional ones, while regional parties are increasingly turning into family-parties.

Shri Nadda asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party stands apart as a truly ideological and cadre-based party with a vast mass following. The BJP has never compromised on its core principles and has remained steadfast in its ideology since its inception. Recalling the party’s historical journey, he noted that as early as the 1950s, during the formation of the Jana Sangh, the demand for the abrogation of Article 370 and the full integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the Indian Constitution was raised. Shri Nadda remembered the sacrifice of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, who was arrested in 1953 for proclaiming “Ek desh mein do nishan, do vidhan, do pradhan nahi chalega.” That commitment, he said, was finally fulfilled on August 5, 2019, when the Parliament abrogated Articles 370 and 35A. He further highlighted the BJP’s ideological consistency from the 1989 Palampur Resolution supporting the construction of the Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir to its realization in 2024, when Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bhavya Ram Mandir at Ayodhya. The BJP has remained unwavering on key national issues like the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), and the abolition of triple talaq. He pointed out that even many Islamic countries such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Indonesia, Syria, and Iraq have eliminated triple talaq, underlining that India’s move was both just and progressive. While several Islamic and Muslim-majority nations have abolished the practice of triple talaq, it was ironically some self-proclaimed secularists in India who wanted to preserve it thereby causing great injustice to Muslim women. It was Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s decisive leadership that finally ended the regressive practice, ensuring dignity and equality for women. Referring to the Waqf Amendment Bill, Shri Nadda noted that the discussions around it revealed the communal mindset of certain sections, despite the fact that the amendment was introduced in April 2025 in the true interest of the Muslim community. He reiterated that the Bharatiya Janata Party has never wavered from its ideological foundation and remains India’s only consistent and principled political force  both cadre-based and mass-based.

Hon’ble BJP National President stated that BJP is the mass based party and the BJP today has 240 Members of Parliament in the Lok Sabha, 102 Members of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha, 1,653 MLAs across states, and 152 MLCs. The NDA currently governs 20 states across India, with the Bharatiya Janata Party leading the government in 13 of them under BJP Chief Ministers. The party’s remarkable electoral record achieved a hat-trick of victories in Haryana and Goa, and twice wins in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Manipur, and Assam. The BJP has maintained continuous governance in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat for the past three decades. The BJP the party has 140 million members, 20 million active workers, and a robust structure extending to the mandal level, with functional committees in over 15,000 mandals. The BJP is an ideological, cadre-based, and mass-based organization the world’s largest political party  driven by its commitment to service and development.

Shri Nadda also spoke about the Modi government’s reform-oriented vision, noting that several new initiatives have been launched recently. He cited the implementation of the next-generation GST on September 22, the first day of Navratri as a significant step toward simplifying India’s tax system, contrasting it with the complex and fragmented taxation framework that existed before 2017. Before the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), India’s taxation system was burdened with multiple layers such as entry tax, sales tax, excise duty, VAT, service tax, and even commission tax which, he noted, continues in Kerala to this day. And for that, we must ensure that the ‘Lotus’ blooms in the next election. It was Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji who implemented the visionary reform of “One Nation, One Tax”. The new, simplified structure now has only two slabs and has significantly reduced the tax burden on citizens. Nearly 99% of items that were previously taxed at 12% are now taxed at just 5%, while 90% of items earlier under the 28% slab are now taxed at 18%. Many essential commodities have been brought under the zero-tax category. Under the new tax reforms, annual income up to ₹12 lakh has been made non-taxable. Significant changes have been introduced under the next-generation GST system.

Hon’ble BJP National President stated that India has made significant progress over the past 11 years. He highlighted that the country has moved from being the 14th largest economy to the 11th largest, and now ranks as the 4th largest economy in the world. India is rapidly progressing toward becoming the 3rd largest economy globally. Even the International Monetary Fund has recognized India’s economy as a “bright spot.” The World Bank has also acknowledged that despite global slowdown, India’s economy remains strong. Retail inflation dropped to an eight-year low of 1.55% in July 2025. Transactions through direct benefit transfers (DBT) have increased 135 times, and Jan Aushadhi outlets have saved the common man, benefiting 38,000 crore citizens. Electronic manufacturing has increased sixfold. In the past, India used to import 92% of mobile phones, but now 98% of mobile phones are manufactured domestically. Toy exports have risen by 40%, demonstrating India’s growing prominence in the automotive market. India has become the 3rd largest market in the world for automobiles. Annual defense production has reached an all-time high of ₹1.5 lakh crore, with defense exports at ₹23,000 crore, reflecting the overall growth of the Indian economy, an impact also visible in Kerala.

Shri Nadda remarked that while some in the Left government question what Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji is contributing, visits to the state reveal that all development works have been made possible through the efforts of the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Every development, be it highways, railways, elevated roads, 4-lane and 6-lane projects, airports, or electrification initiatives, is funded through the Government of India under PM Shri Narendra Modi ji’s leadership. Tax devolution to Kerala has increased by 236%, rising from ₹46,000 crore in 2014 to ₹1.5 lakh crore in 2024; grants-in-aid to Kerala have increased by 460%, from ₹25,000 crore in 2014 to ₹1.4 lakh crore; and railway investment in Kerala has increased eightfold, with ₹3,000 crore allocated for the 2025–26 financial year alone. Kerala has now achieved 100% railway electrification. Four Vande Bharat trains are operational, and under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme, 35 new world-class railway stations are coming up in the state. Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji inaugurated the Water Metro, which has now started operations in Kerala, described as a gift from the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Additionally, a new international seaport, developed at a cost of ₹8,800 crore, was recently inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, marking a major milestone in the shipping sector. The Government of India has undertaken extensive measures to ensure the welfare of the people. He cited schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana and Ayushman Bharat. While noting that the Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandhan Yojana has not yet been implemented by the current state government, he expressed confidence that it will be implemented after the next election. He recalled similar instances where Ayushman Bharat was not initially implemented in Odisha or Delhi, and highlighted that with a change in government, these states now benefit from the scheme. Citing confidence that Ayushman Bharat will be implemented in Bengal after the next elections. He assured that Kerala will similarly see the implementation of Vaya Vandhan Yojana and Ayushman Bharat after the next election.

Hon’ble BJP National President pointed out that under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, 25% of the Indian population, previously below the poverty line, is now above it. In Kerala, 1.54 crore people benefit from the scheme, receiving 5 kg of rice or wheat and 1 kg of pulses. Regarding housing, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, 1,68,000 houses have been sanctioned in Kerala, despite what was described as a partisan approach by the Left-dominated government favoring their own cadre, calling it Bandar Bant. Across India, an additional 4 crore houses have been sanctioned by the Government of India. Ayushman Bharat currently has 1.10 crore beneficiaries in the state. Under the Pradhan Mantri Jal Jeevan Mission, lakhs of water tap connections have been provided. Furthermore, in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, 2.5 lakh toilets have been constructed.

Shri Nadda stated that in addition to the development initiatives in Kerala, significant work has been undertaken in the social sector, including the establishment of super-specialty blocks and medical colleges. Questions from the media regarding the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) were noted, with assurance that these institutions will be established at the right time and in the right locations. The role of the LDF and UDF governments in Kerala was criticized, and the previous 10 years of Congress-led governance at the national level were described as a period characterized by policy paralysis, non-performance, appeasement, lack of development, corruption, and administrative inefficiency. The LDF government has similarly mismanaged Kerala’s resources over the past decade, resulting in no development and widespread corruption, with senior leaders involved in wrongdoing. Legal action will be taken, and it was assured that none will go unpunished. Unemployment among youth under 30 years of age stands at 29%, representing the highest rate in the state. Economic distress was attributed to poor administration, and the government was criticized for compromising on matters of national security. The present government failed to appropriately acknowledge the successful action carried out during Operation Sindoor by the Indian Forces. The current government in Kerala is characterized by corruption and non-performance, which has hindered the state’s overall growth and governance.

Shri Nadda stated that the current government in Kerala has been attempting to create hurdles in the state’s development. It was emphasized that whatever progress has been achieved has been due to the initiatives taken by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji and the Government of India. He expressed his happiness that, under the leadership of Shri Rajiv Chandrasekhar, the BJP in Kerala has resolved to work towards a Viksit Keralam. He stressed that development is the only way forward, and reiterated the party’s commitment to Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas, emphasizing that these principles are implemented in both letter and spirit. Shri Nadda urged party workers to prepare diligently for the upcoming municipal elections, which he described as a precursor to the Vidhan Sabha elections. Recalling his role as in-charge of Kerala in 2016, he expressed confidence that the state will deliver strong results this time, ensuring the party comes in power. Shri Nadda extended his best wishes for the success of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Kerala, noting that this success would translate into the development of the state and the betterment of the common people of Kerala.

PM launches Bihar’s Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana

| Published on:

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched Bihar’s Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana via video conferencing today. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Prime Minister extended his greetings to all, noting the auspicious occasion of Navratri. He expressed his joy at joining the women of Bihar in their celebrations and remarked that the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana is being launched today. Shri Modi highlighted that 75 Lakh women have already joined this initiative. He announced that ₹10,000 has just been transferred to the bank accounts of each of these 75 lakh women simultaneously.

Shri Modi said while this process was going on he had two thoughts. First, he remarked that today marks a truly significant milestone for the women and daughters of Bihar. When a woman engages in employment or self-employment, her dreams gain new wings and her respect in society grows. Second, the Prime Minister highlighted that had the government not resolved to launch the Jan Dhan Yojana eleven years ago, had over 30 crore women not opened bank accounts under the scheme, and had these accounts not been linked to mobile phones and Aadhaar, it would not have been possible to transfer such funds directly into their bank accounts today. He emphasized that without this infrastructure, the money would have been lost in transit, resulting in grave injustice to the beneficiaries.

Prime Minister remarked that a brother finds true happiness when his sister is healthy, prosperous, and her family is economically strong. He affirmed that a brother does whatever he can to ensure this wellbeing. He stated that today two brothers, himself and Shri Nitish Kumar are working together for the service, prosperity, and dignity of the women of Bihar. The Prime Minister emphasized that today’s programme is a testament to this commitment.

Sharing that he was impressed by the vision of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana when it was first presented to him, the Prime Minister emphasized that every family will have at least one woman beneficiary under this scheme. Starting with an initial financial support of ₹10,000, the scheme can provide up to ₹2 lakh based on the success of the enterprise. Shri Modi urged everyone to consider the magnitude of this initiative. He highlighted that women in Bihar can now open shops selling groceries, utensils, cosmetics, toys, and stationery. They can also pursue livestock-related businesses such as cattle rearing and poultry farming. For all these ventures, necessary training will be provided. He noted that Bihar already has a robust network of self-help groups, with nearly 11 lakh groups actively functioning. This means a well-established system is already in place. “Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to launch the Jeevika Nidhi Credit Cooperative Society. The strength of this system will now be integrated with the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, making the scheme effective across Bihar from its very inception”, stated the Prime Minister.

Highlighting that the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana has further strengthened the Central Government’s Lakhpati Didi campaign, Shri Modi underlined that the Central Government has set a target of creating 3 crore Lakhpati Didis across the country, and over 2 crore women have already achieved this milestone. Their hard work has transformed villages and reshaped society. The Prime Minister noted that in Bihar too, lakhs of women have become Lakhpati Didis. He remarked that with the way governments at Union and State are advancing this initiative, the day is not far when Bihar will have the highest number of Lakhpati Didis in the country.

Shri Modi highlighted that the Central Government’s initiatives such as the Mudra Yojana, Drone Didi campaign, Bima Sakhi campaign, and Bank Didi campaign are all expanding avenues for employment and self-employment for women. He emphasized that the singular goal behind these efforts is to help women realize their dreams by providing them with maximum opportunities.

Noting that the Central Government’s efforts have opened new sectors for women and daughters across the country, the Prime Minister highlighted that today, a large number of young women are joining the armed forces and police, and are even flying fighter jets. However, he urged everyone not to forget the days when Bihar was under opposition rule—the era of lantern governance. During that time, he remarked, women in Bihar bore the brunt of lawlessness and corruption. He recalled how major roads in Bihar were broken, bridges were non-existent, and women suffered the most due to poor infrastructure. During floods, the hardships intensified, with pregnant women unable to reach hospitals on time and lacking access to proper treatment in critical situations. The Prime Minister affirmed that it was his government that helped women come out of these difficult circumstances. He noted that after the arrival of their government at Centre and state, road construction in Bihar gained momentum. He added that efforts to improve connectivity in Bihar are ongoing, and these developments have significantly eased the lives of women in the state.

Noting that he had received information about an exhibition currently being held in Bihar, Shri Modi said that the exhibition displays headlines from old newspapers, which serve as a stark reminder of the atmosphere of fear during the opposition regime in Bihar. The Prime Minister remarked that no household was safe at the time, and the terror of Naxalite violence was unchecked. He emphasized that women bore the greatest pain during those years. From the poor to families of doctors and IAS officers, no one was spared from the atrocities committed by opposition leaders.

Underscoring that under the leadership of Shri Nitish Kumar, the rule of law has been restored in Bihar, and women have been the primary beneficiaries of this change, Shri Modi remarked that daughters of Bihar now step out of their homes without fear and have the freedom to work even late at night. The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction at witnessing the large deployment of women police personnel during his visits to Bihar. He urged everyone to collectively pledge that Bihar must never return to the darkness of the past.

Pointing out that when a government formulates policies with women at the center, the benefits extend to other sections of society as well, the Prime Minister cited the Ujjwala Yojana as a powerful example of such transformative change, now recognized globally. He recalled that there was a time when having a gas connection in rural areas was considered a distant dream. Shri Modi further highlighted how poor mothers, sisters, and daughters spent their lives coughing in smoke-filled kitchens, with lung diseases becoming common and even eyesight being lost. In Bihar, he noted, women’s lives were consumed by the burden of collecting firewood. He described the added hardships—during rains, wet wood wouldn’t burn; during floods, firewood would be submerged. Many times, children in the household had to sleep hungry or survive the night eating puffed rice.

Prime Minister stated that this pain is not written in any book—it has been lived by the women of Bihar. He emphasized that when their government began designing policies with women at the center, the picture started to change. Gas connections were delivered to crores of households simultaneously. Today, crores of women are cooking peacefully on gas stoves, free from smoke, and relieved from respiratory and eye diseases. Children at home now receive hot meals every day. The Prime Minister remarked that the Ujjwala gas connections have not only brightened kitchens in Bihar but have also transformed the lives of women.

Affirming that addressing every hardship faced by citizens is the government’s responsibility, Shri Modi recalled that during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, the government launched a free food grain scheme. Given the immense relief it provided, the decision was made to continue the initiative. Today, under the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, over 8.5 crore needy individuals in Bihar are receiving free ration. The Prime Minister emphasized how significantly this scheme has eased public concerns. He cited another example, noting that a large region in Bihar prefers Usna rice. Previously, mothers and sisters were provided Arwa rice through government ration, and had to exchange it in the market for Usna rice—often receiving only 10 kg of Usna rice in return for 20 kg of Arwa rice. The Prime Minister stated that the government took this issue seriously, and has now started providing Usna rice directly through the ration system.

Shri Modi remarked that traditionally, property in India—be it a house, shop, or land—was registered in the name of men. He highlighted that with the launch of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, a new provision was introduced to ensure that mothers, sisters, and daughters are also named as owners of these homes. The Prime Minister stated that over 50 lakh PM Awas homes have been constructed in Bihar, and in most of them, women are listed as co-owners. He affirmed that women are now the rightful owners of their homes.

Underlining that when a woman’s health deteriorates, the entire family is affected, Shri Modi recalled a time when women silently endured illnesses, unwilling to let household finances be spent on their treatment. The Prime Minister emphasized that the Ayushman Bharat Yojana has addressed this concern, providing free medical treatment up to ₹5 lakh to lakhs of women in Bihar. He also highlighted the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, under which financial assistance is being directly transferred to the bank accounts of pregnant women.

Affirming that the health of citizens, especially women, is a top priority for the government, the Prime Minister announced the launch of a major initiative—Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan—which began on 17th September 2025 on Vishwakarma Jayanti. Under this campaign, over 4.25 lakh health camps are being organized across villages and towns. These camps are conducting screenings for serious ailments such as anemia, blood pressure, diabetes, and cancer. Shri Modi highlighted that more than one crore women have already availed free health check-ups through this initiative. He urged all women in Bihar to participate in these camps and ensure they get themselves examined.

Noting that the festive season is underway, with Navratri ongoing, Diwali approaching, and Chhath Puja not far behind, Shri Modi acknowledged that women constantly think about how to manage and save household expenses during this time. To ease this concern, their government has taken a major step by reducing GST rates across the country from 22nd September 2025. As a result, everyday essentials such as toothpaste, soap, shampoo, ghee, and food items will now be available at lower prices. The cost of stationery for children’s education, as well as clothes and footwear for festive occasions, has also come down. The Prime Minister emphasized that this move provides significant relief to women managing household and kitchen budgets. He affirmed that lightening the burden on women and bringing joy to their faces during festivals is a responsibility that their governments at Centre and state take seriously.

Underlining that whenever women in Bihar have been given opportunities, they have brought about transformative change through their courage and determination, the Prime Minister affirmed that the progress of women leads to the progress of society as a whole. He concluded by once again extending his congratulations to the people of Bihar on the launch of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana.

The Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri Nitish Kumar, Union Minister, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh were present among other dignitaries at the event.

Background

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi  launched Bihar’s Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana today via video conferencing.  During the programme, Prime Minister directly transferred Rs. 10,000 each into the bank accounts of 75 lakh women across Bihar, totaling Rs. 7,500 crore.

The scheme, an initiative of the Government of Bihar, is aimed at making women Aatmanirbhar and promoting women’s empowerment through self-employment and livelihood opportunities. It will provide financial assistance to one woman from each family in the state, enabling them to start employment or livelihood activities of their choice, thereby fostering economic independence and social empowerment.

Under the scheme, each beneficiary will receive an initial grant of Rs. 10,000 via Direct Benefit Transfer, with the possibility of additional financial support of up to Rs. 2 lakh in subsequent phases. The assistance can be utilized in areas of the choice of the beneficiary including  agriculture, animal husbandry, handicrafts, tailoring, weaving, and other small-scale enterprises.

The scheme will be community driven in which, along with financial support, community resource persons connected to Self Help Groups will provide training to support their endeavour. To support the sale of their produce, Gramin Haat-Bazaars will be further developed in the State.

The launch of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana will feature a statewide program across multiple administrative levels in the State —district, block, cluster, and village—with over 1 crore women witnessing the programme.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi interacted with beneficiaries of Bihar’s Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana via videoconferencing today.

Smt. Ranjeeta Kazi, a tribal woman beneficiary from West Champaran district of Bihar, extended heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar for the transformative changes brought to her region. Associated with the Jeevika Self Help Group, she highlighted that her forested area—once deprived of basic infrastructure—now enjoys access to roads, electricity, water, sanitation, and education. She thanked the Chief Minister for initiatives focused on women, including reservation provisions that have increased female representation in government jobs and Panchayati Raj institutions. She praised the cycle and uniform schemes, noting the pride she feels when girls ride bicycles in school uniforms.

Ranjeeta commended the Prime Minister for the Ujjwala Yojana, which has provided low-cost gas cylinders to women, freeing them from smoke-filled kitchens and improving their health. She also acknowledged the benefits of the housing scheme, under which she now resides in a pucca house.

She expressed appreciation for the Chief Minister’s recent decision to provide 125 units of free electricity and increase pensions from ₹400 to ₹1,100, which has boosted women’s confidence. Under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, she plans to use the initial ₹10,000 to purchase a pump set for farming jowar and bajra, and later invest ₹2 lakh to start a flour business promoting indigenous grains.

Ranjeeta affirmed that such support strengthens livelihoods and paves the way for women to become Lakhpati Didis. She shared that women in her region are celebrating the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana as a festival alongside Navratri. On behalf of all Didis in West Champaran, she conveyed her heartfelt thanks and deep appreciation to both leaders for their continued support.

Smt. Reeta Devi, another beneficiary from Bhojpur district, extended heartfelt greetings on behalf of all women of Arrah to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar. She shared her journey of empowerment that began in 2015 when she joined a Self Help Group and received ₹5,000 under the Bhaiya Pahal initiative. With this amount, she purchased four goats and started her livelihood. The income from goat rearing enabled her to buy 50 hens and begin an egg-selling business, pricing each egg at ₹15. She innovated by using a fish container and a light source to hatch chicks, which significantly improved her family’s financial condition.

Reeta Devi proudly stated that she has now become both a Lakhpati Didi and a Drone Didi, reflecting her growth and development. She thanked the Prime Minister and Chief Minister for the launch of Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, which has brought immense joy and activity to villages and localities. Women across the district have started various enterprises—some in cattle rearing, goat farming, and others in running bangle shops. Reeta shared that upon receiving the first ₹10,000 installment, she purchased 100 hens to meet the rising demand for eggs during winter. With the subsequent ₹2 lakh support, she established her own poultry farm and installed machinery to expand her business.

She acknowledged the impact of other government schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, which replaced her mud house—prone to leaks during rains—with a pucca home. She highlighted the transformation brought by the construction of toilets under the Swachh Bharat Mission, eliminating the need for women to go to fields. She added that now every house has a toilet. With the arrival of the Nal-Jal scheme, villagers now have access to clean drinking water, resulting in significant health improvements.

Reeta Devi shared that since receiving a gas connection under the Ujjwala Yojana, she no longer cooks on traditional stoves that produced harmful smoke. She expressed happiness at being able to cook safely on gas. She also praised the Ayushman Bharat Health Card, which provides free medical treatment up to ₹5 lakh without any expense. She noted that the provision of 125 units of free electricity has brought light to homes that were once dark, allowing children to study without worry.

She emphasized that when women benefit from government schemes, their children benefit too. Earlier, women had to travel far for education, but now their children receive bicycles and uniforms for school. Rita recalled receiving a bicycle and uniform herself, which enabled her to attend school with pride. She thanked both the leaders profusely for all the benefits of the government schemes.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi responded warmly, praising Reeta Devi for her clarity and speed in listing the schemes and explaining their impact. He asked about her educational background, to which Reeta replied that she began her studies only after joining the Jeevika group. She had not completed matriculation, intermediate, or graduation earlier, but has now enrolled in an MA in Rural Development. She concluded by expressing her continued gratitude and blessings on behalf of all Didis in the district.

Nurjahan Khatoon, resident of Jhikatia village, Bodh Gaya block, Gaya district, and President of the Gulab Ji Vikas Self Help Group, extended heartfelt greetings to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar on behalf of all women in the district. She expressed immense joy over the ₹10,000 first installment being provided to women under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, noting that this announcement has sparked excitement and discussion across homes and villages, with women planning their desired livelihoods.

Nurjahan shared that she will use the ₹10,000 to expand her existing tailoring shop by building a larger counter to display and sell items. She and her husband, a skilled tailor who previously worked outside the village, now jointly run the shop and have already provided employment to ten people. She stated that if she receives the ₹2 lakh support, she plans to further expand her business, purchase additional machines, and employ ten more individuals.

She praised the Chief Minister’s consistent efforts to uplift women and highlighted the impact of free electricity up to 125 units, which has eliminated her household bill entirely. The savings are now used for her children’s tuition fees. She noted that even the poorest women, who previously avoided electricity connections due to cost, now have fully lit homes where children study under electric bulbs.

Reflecting on earlier challenges, Nurjahan recalled that before joining the self-help group, women rarely stepped out of their homes and faced resistance from family members. Some even endured domestic violence. Today, she said, families encourage women to step out and engage in productive work. She emphasized the pride her family feels when she goes out for employment and training activities, and expressed her desire to train others with the help of her husband, a master tailor.

She shared that earlier, she considered her husband her only asset, but now he proudly calls her the “Lakhpati” of the household. Rising from poverty and a thatched home, she now lives in a well-built house and expressed deep gratitude to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister on behalf of all women in Gaya district.

Responding to her remarks, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi praised Nurjahan Khatoon for her clarity and heartfelt explanation. He requested her to dedicate one day a week to visit different villages and gather 50–100 women to share her experiences, stating that her story would serve as a powerful inspiration to others. He congratulated her warmly and thanked her for her contribution.

Smt. Putul Devi, resident of Bhawanipur and Secretary of the Muskaan Self Help Group, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar on behalf of the people of Purnea district. She shared her joy over receiving ₹10,000 under the Chief Minister’s Women Employment Scheme, stating that she currently runs a shop selling sweets like ladoo, and now plans to expand her offerings to include tikri, balushahi, jalebi, and barfi. She affirmed her determination to work hard and qualify for the ₹2 lakh support, which will help her scale up her business and hire additional staff.

Putul Devi also highlighted the benefits of the newly launched Jeevika Bank, through which she plans to strengthen her financial position by availing low-interest loans. She expressed pride in contributing to the nation’s strength through the Prime Minister’s call for promoting indigenous enterprise. She shared her happiness over her mother-in-law’s pension being increased from ₹400 to ₹1,100 and the provision of 125 units of free electricity, which allows her to save money and invest in her child’s education. She thanked both leaders for introducing schemes that have brought joy and prosperity to households across Purnea.

Responding to her remarks, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi asked whether she faced initial challenges from her family or community when starting her business. Putul Devi replied that many people mocked her efforts, but she remained determined and began her small enterprise with laddoos and batasha. After joining Jeevika, she took a loan to build her house and educate her child, who is now pursuing a government-sponsored B.Tech degree in Katihar.

The Prime Minister acknowledged her mention of jalebi and humorously noted that the sweet had once been a subject of political debate in the country. He congratulated her warmly and thanked her for her inspiring story.

MiG-21 taught us never to fear change, but to embrace it with confidence: Raksha Mantri

| Published on:

“The legacy of the MiG-21 will live on in India’s pursuit of Aatmanirbharta in defence. The aircraft symbolises the continuity of courage, discipline and patriotism that will inspire the development of indigenous platforms such as LCA-Tejas and the upcoming Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA),” stated Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh during the Decommissioning Ceremony of the Indian Air Force (IAF) MiG-21 in Chandigarh on September 26, 2025. The ceremony marked the final operational sortie of the MiG-21, bringing to a close an illustrious chapter of more than six decades in the history of the IAF. Raksha Mantri underlined that when the world looks at India tomorrow, it should see a nation that began with the MiG-21 and now leads with futuristic defence technologies.

Shri Rajnath Singh saluted the valour and dedication of the air warriors of the IAF who have, through courage & sacrifice, safeguarded the sovereignty, unity and integrity of the nation. He paid glowing tribute to the MiG-21, describing it as more than just a machine, but rather a symbol of India’s rise in military aviation, a shield of national defence, and a faithful companion of the Armed Forces since its induction in 1963. Raksha Mantri pointed out that more than 11,500 MiG-21s were built worldwide, of which approximately 850 served with the IAF, which testify the aircraft’s popularity, credibility and multi-dimensional capabilities.

Raksha Mantri recalled how the MiG-21 proved its mettle in multiple theatres of war and conflict, from its decisive role in the 1971 war, where it attacked the Governor’s House in Dhaka under hostile conditions and hastened India’s victory, to its presence in the Kargil conflict, the Balakot airstrike, and Operation Sindoor. “In every historic mission, the MiG-21 carried the Tricolour with honour. Its contribution has never been limited to a single event or battle, it has been a pillar of India’s air power for decades,” he highlighted.

Highlighting the aircraft’s versatility, Shri Rajnath Singh described the MiG-21 as the “bird of all seasons” which excelled in every conceivable role as an interceptor deterring enemy aircraft, a ground-attack platform displaying offensive capability, a frontline air defence jet protecting Indian skies, and a trainer aircraft that groomed countless pilots. “The foundation of our highly skilled fighter pilots was laid on the MiG-21. Standing on this legendary platform, generations of air warriors learned to fly, adapt, and succeed in the toughest conditions. Its role in shaping India’s air strategy cannot be overstated,” he underlined.

Shri Rajnath Singh further stated that the MiG-21 performed far beyond expectations of both its designers and operators, evolving from a 1950s-era jet into a formidable, upgraded platform known by names such as Trishul, Vikram, Badal and Bison. He added that this adaptability is what kept the MiG-21 at the heart of the IAF’s inventory for so long. “The MiG-21 taught us never to fear change, but to embrace it with confidence. Today, India’s defence ecosystem, our research labs, academia, DPSUs, private sector, startups and youth is working in unison to take this legacy forward,” he underscored.

Raksha Mantri also addressed misconceptions regarding the age of the aircraft. He clarified that while the initial MiG-21s inducted in the 1960s and 70s were retired long ago, the aircraft in service until now were at most 40 years old, a lifespan considered normal for fighter jets worldwide. He underlined that the MiG-21 was continuously upgraded with advanced radars, avionics and weapon systems, thanks to the efforts of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). Commending HAL engineers and scientists, he stated that their relentless work kept the aircraft technologically relevant and battle-ready for decades.

Shri Rajnath Singh emphasised that this farewell should not be seen merely as a ceremonial military tradition, but as an extension of India’s civilisational ethos. Drawing from Indian philosophy, he said, “Our ancient culture teaches us that divinity resides not only in living beings, but also in non-living objects. Just as we worship the earth, rivers, trees and tools that serve us, today’s farewell to the MiG-21 is an act of gratitude towards a machine that protected our skies and inspired confidence in our people for over 60 years.” He added that this moment was akin to the rituals performed for weapons on Dussehra, reflecting a continuity of respect towards all that empowers the nation.

Underscoring the special significance of Chandigarh as the venue, Raksha Mantri stated that it was this place that India’s supersonic journey began with the induction of the MiG-21 into No. 28 Squadron, the ‘First Supersonics’. “This soil has witnessed a glorious chapter that redefined India’s air power. Today, history comes full circle as we bid farewell to that very aircraft from the same place,” he added.

The ceremony was marked by a spectacular flypast led by Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, a rare and symbolic gesture that reflected the deep respect the IAF holds for the legendary aircraft. The event featured a series of aerial displays including a skydiving demonstration by Akash Ganga, formation take-offs by MiG-21s, the Badal and Panther formations, precision drill movements by the Air Warrior Drill Team, Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team and a symbolic flypast showcasing Jaguars and MiG-21s in a historical recreation of Combat Air Patrol. A joint MiG-21 and LCA Tejas flypast highlighted the transition from the legendary Bison to the indigenous Tejas.

A ceremonial switch-off of six MiG-21 aircraft in front of the dignitaries marked the culmination of the aircraft’s operational service. The aircraft document Form-700 was handed over to the Chief of the Air Staff by officers and airmen of 23 and Commanding Officer of 28 Squadron.

On this occasion, the Raksha Mantri also released a special commemorative day cover and stamp honouring the legacy of the MiG-21. He also made a visit to the Memory Lane museum, followed by a Bara Khana with air warriors and veterans.

Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Secretary DDR&D & Chairman DRDO Dr Samir V Kamat and Financial Advisor (Defence Services) Dr. Mayank Sharma were also present on the occasion. The gathering witnessed the participation of senior officers of the IAF, veterans, engineers, technicians, ground crew and air warriors who have served with the MiG-21 over its long operational life.

Union Health Minister Inaugurates the Third Edition of Global Food Regulators Summit 2025

| Published on:

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda inaugurated the third edition of the Global Food Regulators Summit 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, here today. Organized by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) under the aegis of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, this edition of the Summit centres around the theme of “Evolving Food Systems- Yatha Annam Tatha Manah (यथा अन्नं तथा मनः)”, which reflects the profound connection between the quality of food and the health of the mind.

In his inaugural address, Shri Nadda emphasized upon the theme and said: “The theme of this year’s summit, “Yatha Annam Tatha Manah” – as is the food, so is the mind – highlights that food influences not just physical health but also mental well-being, emotional balance, and the moral fabric of society.” He also noted that “those days are gone when countries focused themselves only on domestic food production. When states engage in trading of food, they are directly involved in the health and wellbeing of people.”

The Union Health Minister highlighted that obesity has become a pressing health concern, driven by unhealthy diets, sedentary lifestyles, and the growing dependence on processed foods. He recalled the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s call to combat obesity through nationwide awareness and collective action, particularly by reducing edible oil consumption by 10%. “Aligning with his vision, FSSAI also has actively rolled out plans for increasing mass awareness on this critical issue under its Eat Right India initiative. The Eat Right India movement, led by FSSAI, champions this cause by combining food safety, nutrition, and sustainability,” Shri Nadda stated.

Underscoring the criticality of food safety in today’s interconnected world, Shri Nadda said, “With global trade making food from one part of the world available in every corner, lapses in safety can trigger public health crises, disrupt commerce, and erode trust in businesses and nations alike.” He stressed that food safety is not merely a matter of compliance but of building confidence in global food systems, making the role of regulators and platforms like the Global Food Regulators Summit all the more vital in safeguarding health, ensuring resilience, and strengthening international cooperation.

The Union Health Minister also recalled the success of the first two Global Food Regulators Summits and said that the third in the series continues the commitment to fostering international dialogue and regulatory innovation. He added that the summit serves as a vital platform to strengthen collective efforts in food safety, enhance global cooperation, and ensure that food systems are safe, resilient, and inclusive.

Shri Nadda commended the efforts made by FSSAI and said: “Over the past decades, FSSAI being the Food regulator of the country has made significant strides in transforming India’s food safety landscape from establishing robust standards and launching innovative initiatives to enhancing testing infrastructure and fostering international cooperation. He stated that FSSAI has emerged as a global leader in ensuring food safety and public health.

A key highlight of the inaugural session was the launch of the ‘Eat Right Thali’ book, a landmark initiative by FSSAI that celebrates India’s rich culinary heritage and the concept of balanced diets. Shri Nadda stated that the book features traditional thalis from across the country, with each thali representing local ingredients, cooking methods, and age-old dietary wisdom, emphasizing variety and nutritional balance. In line with Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision, it underscores the role of traditional diets in combating obesity and lifestyle-related diseases. This compilation serves as both a cultural tribute and a practical guide to preventive health through mindful local and seasonal eating.

This year’s summit witnessed participation from 59 countries, along with leading international organisations such as the World Health Organization and the World Trade Organization, as well as over 100 representatives from different parts of the country. The platform serves as a vital opportunity to deliberate on emerging challenges, exchange global experiences, and adopt innovative solutions to ensure consumers have access to safe and nutritious food, and to chart a collective path forward.

The first day of the Global Food Regulators Summit featured technical sessions on key topics, including Global Regulatory Harmonization and Policy Frameworks, Integrating Science and Technologies towards Sustainable Food Systems, Adapting to the Dynamic Food Landscape, and Traditional Foods & Global Standards. These sessions aimed to provide practical insights and foster discussions on shaping the future of food safety and sustainability.

Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Secretary, Department of Health Research & DG, Indian Council of Medical Research; Shri Rajit Punhani, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), FSSAI; Shri U. S. Dhyani, Executive Director, FSSAI and Shri Nikhil Gajraj, Joint Secretary, Union Health Ministry were present on the occasion.

Speaking at the occasion, the Prime Minister remarked that farmers, entrepreneurs, investors, innovators, and consumers were all present together at the event, making World Food India a platform of new contact, new connect, and creativity. He shared that he had just visited the exhibitions and expressed happiness that the primary focus was on nutrition, reducing oil consumption, and enhancing the healthiness of packaged products. The Prime Minister extended his congratulations and best wishes to all participants of the event.

Prime Minister remarked that every investor evaluates the natural strengths of a location before making an investment. He highlighted that today, global investors—especially those in the food sector—are looking towards India with great optimism. “India possesses a triple strength of diversity, demand, and scale”, highlighted Shri Modi, stating that India produces every type of grain, fruit, and vegetable, and this diversity makes the country uniquely positioned in the global landscape. He noted that every hundred kilometers, the cuisine and its flavors change, reflecting India’s rich culinary variety. The Prime Minister underscored that this strong domestic demand gives India a competitive edge and makes it a preferred destination for investors.

“India is operating at an unprecedented and extraordinary scale. In the past ten years, 25 crore people have overcome poverty and are now part of the neo middle class—India’s most energetic and aspirational segment”, remarked the Prime Minister, stating that the aspirations of this class are shaping food trends and driving demand. He emphasized that India’s talented youth are innovating across sectors, and the food sector is no exception. “India is now the world’s third-largest start-up ecosystem, with many start-ups working in food and agriculture”, exclaimed Shri Modi, pointing out that technologies like AI, e-commerce, drones, and apps are being integrated into the sector, transforming supply chains, retail, and processing methods. He affirmed that India offers diversity, demand, and innovation—all key factors that make it the most attractive destination for investment. Reiterating his message from the Red Fort, the Prime Minister declared that this is the right time to invest and expand in India.

Acknowledging that the challenges of the twenty-first century are well known to all, and India has consistently stepped forward to play a positive role whenever global challenges have arisen, Shri Modi highlighted that India continues to contribute actively to global food security. He emphasized that the strength of India’s agriculture sector has grown due to the hard work of farmers, livestock rearers, and fishermen, supported by government policies. He noted that food grain production has seen significant growth over the past decade. The Prime Minister stated that India is the largest producer of milk, contributing 25% of the global milk supply, and is also the leading producer of millets. He added that India ranks second globally in rice and wheat production and has a substantial contribution in fruits, vegetables, and fisheries. The Prime Minister affirmed that whenever there is a global crop crisis or supply chain disruption, India stands firm and fulfills its responsibility.

Emphasizing that India is committed to expanding its capacity and contribution in the global interest, the Prime Minister stated that the government is strengthening the entire food and nutrition ecosystem by engaging every stakeholder. He highlighted that the food processing sector is being actively promoted, with 100% FDI now permitted. He noted that the sector has also benefited from the PLI scheme and the expansion of mega food parks. Shri Modi remarked that India is currently running the world’s largest storage infrastructure scheme. He affirmed that these government efforts are yielding results, with India’s processing capacity having increased twentyfold over the past ten years and exports of processed food more than doubling.

Highlighting the critical role of farmers, livestock rearers, fishermen, and small processing units in India’s food supply and value chain, Shri Modi remarked that over the past decade, the government has strengthened all these stakeholders. The Prime Minister noted that more than 85% of farmers in India are small or marginal, and therefore, policies and support systems were developed to empower them. He emphasized that today, these small farmers are emerging as a major force in the market.

Pointing out that micro food processing units are being operated by self-help groups, which include crores of villagers across India, Shri Modi stated that the government is supporting these groups through credit-linked subsidies, and ₹800 crore has already been transferred to beneficiaries. He emphasized that the government is also expanding Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), with 10,000 FPOs established since 2014, connecting lakhs of small farmers. He noted that these FPOs help farmers bring their produce to markets at scale and are also playing a major role in the food processing sector by developing branded products. The Prime Minister remarked that the strength of India’s FPOs is astonishing, with over 15,000 products now available on online platforms. He listed examples such as basmati rice, saffron, and walnuts from Kashmir; jams and apple juice from Himachal; millet cookies from Rajasthan; soya nuggets from Madhya Pradesh; superfood makhana from Bihar; peanut oil and jaggery from Maharashtra; and banana chips and coconut oil from Kerala. He affirmed that from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, FPOs are delivering India’s agricultural diversity to every household. The Prime Minister shared that over 1,100 FPOs have become millionaires, with annual turnovers exceeding ₹1 crore, and are playing a vital role in increasing farmers’ incomes and generating employment for youth.

Shri Modi highlighted that alongside FPOs, cooperatives hold immense strength in India. He noted that this year marks the International Year of Cooperatives, and within India, cooperatives are empowering the dairy sector and rural economy. Recognizing their importance, the Prime Minister stated that a dedicated ministry has been established to tailor policies according to the specific needs of cooperatives. He added that tax and transparency reforms have also been implemented for this sector. As a result of these policy-level changes, the cooperative sector has gained renewed strength.

Highlighting India’s impressive growth in the marine and fisheries sector, Shri Modi stated that over the past decade, the government has expanded infrastructure related to fisheries and provided funding support to fishermen, including assistance for deep-sea fishing boats. As a result, both marine production and exports have increased. The Prime Minister noted that this sector now provides employment to nearly three crore people. He emphasized that efforts are underway to expand marine product processing, with investments being made in modern processing plants, cold chain infrastructure, and smart harbours.

Underlining that the government is investing in modern technology to safeguard crops, the Prime Minister highlighted that farmers are being connected with food irradiation techniques, which have extended the shelf life of agricultural products and strengthened food security. He affirmed that units engaged in this work are receiving comprehensive support from the government.

“India is advancing on a new path of innovation and reforms, with widespread discussion around the Next Generation GST reforms”, exclaimed the Prime Minister, highlighting that these reforms promise lower costs and higher returns for farmers. He noted that butter and ghee now attract only 5% GST, providing substantial relief, while milk cans are also taxed at just 5%, ensuring better prices for farmers and producers. He emphasized that this will guarantee more nutrition at lower prices for the poor and middle class. Shri Modi remarked that the food processing sector stands to gain significantly from these reforms, with ready-to-consume and preserved fruits, vegetables, and nuts now under the 5% GST slab. He added that over 90% of processed food products fall under the zero or 5% tax category. The Prime Minister further stated that GST on bio-pesticides and micro-nutrients has been reduced, making bio-inputs more affordable and directly benefiting small organic farmers and FPOs.

Emphasising that biodegradable packaging is a demand of the times, Shri Modi stated that while it is essential to keep products fresh and of high quality, it is equally important to uphold our responsibility towards nature. In this spirit, the government has reduced GST on biodegradable packaging from 18% to 5%. The Prime Minister urged all industry stakeholders to invest in innovations related to biodegradable packaging. He affirmed that India has opened its doors to the world with an open mind and is fully receptive to investors across the food chain. He concluded by reiterating India’s readiness for collaborations and once again extended congratulations to all participants of the event.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurates, lays foundation stone of development works worth over Rs 1,22,100 crore in Banswara, Rajasthan. On the fourth day of Navratri, the Prime Minister expressed his privilege to visit the sacred land of Maa Tripura Sundari in Banswara. He shared that he also had the opportunity to witness Maa Mahi, revered as the Ganga of Kanthal and Vagad. The Prime Minister remarked that the waters of Mahi symbolize the resilience and struggle of India’s tribal communities. He highlighted the inspiring leadership of Mahayogi Govind Guru Ji, whose legacy continues to resonate, with the holy waters of Mahi bearing witness to that great saga. Shri Modi paid homage to Maa Tripura Sundari and Maa Mahi, and from this land of devotion and valor, he also offered his respects to Maharana Pratap and Raja Bansia Bhil.

Shri Modi remarked that during Navratri, the nation worships the nine forms of Shakti, and today’s major event in Banswara is dedicated to Urja Shakti—energy generation. He highlighted that a new chapter in India’s power sector is being written from the soil of Rajasthan. The Prime Minister announced the launch of power projects worth over ₹90,000 crore across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra. He emphasized that the simultaneous initiation of such large-scale projects reflects India’s accelerating progress in the energy sector, with every region of the country actively contributing with all states being given priority. In Rajasthan, the foundation stones for clean energy projects and transmission lines have been laid. Shri Modi also inaugurated solar energy projects and announced the commencement of the Rajasthan Atomic Power Project in Banswara. He underscored that from solar to nuclear energy, India is scaling new heights in power generation capacity.

“In today’s era of technology and industry, development runs on the power of electricity; electricity brings light, speed, progress, connectivity, and global access”, remarked the Prime Minister. He criticized previous governments for neglecting the importance of electricity. Shri Modi stated that when his government came to power in 2014, 2.5 crore households lacked electricity connections, and even after 70 years of independence, 18,000 villages had not seen a single electric pole. He highlighted that major cities faced hours-long power cuts, and in villages, even 4–5 hours of electricity was considered significant. The absence of electricity hindered factory operations and the establishment of new industries, affecting states like Rajasthan and the entire country. The Prime Minister affirmed that in 2014, his government resolved to change this situation. He stated that electricity was delivered to every village and 2.5 crore households received free connections. Wherever power lines reached, electricity followed—making lives easier and enabling the growth of new industries.

The Prime Minister stated that for any nation to achieve rapid development in the 21st century, it must scale up its electricity generation. He emphasized that the most successful countries will be those leading in clean energy. “Our government is transforming the clean energy mission into a people’s movement”, highlighted Shri Modi, announcing the launch of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, under which solar panels are being installed on rooftops in both urban and rural areas. To ensure affordable electricity for farmers, the PM-KUSUM scheme is facilitating the installation of solar pumps in agricultural fields. The Prime Minister noted that several solar projects have been inaugurated across states today, directly benefiting lakhs of farmers. He reiterated that the PM Surya Ghar scheme provides free electricity for homes, while the PM-KUSUM scheme ensures free electricity for farms. Shri Modi shared his earlier interaction with beneficiaries of the PM-KUSUM scheme, who told him that solar-powered free electricity has become a major blessing in their lives.

“India is working at high speed to become a developed nation, with Rajasthan playing a significant role in this journey”, exclaimed Shri Modi. He announced the launch of additional projects worth ₹30,000 crore for the people of Rajasthan, aimed at improving access to water, electricity, and healthcare. The Prime Minister flagged off three new trains, including a Vande Bharat service. He highlighted the nationwide campaign to generate new employment opportunities, under which 15,000 youth in Rajasthan received appointment letters for government jobs today. Shri Modi extended his best wishes to these young individuals as they embark on a new chapter in their lives and congratulated the people of Rajasthan on the launch of these development initiatives.

Expressing satisfaction that their government in Rajasthan is working with full integrity toward the state’s development, the PM stated that the wounds inflicted on Rajasthan by previous dispensation through misgovernance and exploitation are now being healed by the current administration. Shri Modi alleged that under opposition rule, Rajasthan had become a center for paper leaks and that the Jal Jeevan Mission was compromised by corruption. He highlighted that atrocities against women had peaked, with protection being extended to perpetrators. He pointed out that during the opposition’s tenure, regions like Banswara, Dungarpur, and Pratapgarh witnessed a surge in crime and illegal liquor trade. The Prime Minister remarked that once the people gave them a chance, law and order was strengthened and the pace of development accelerated. He noted that major projects are now being implemented, with a growing network of highways and expressways across Rajasthan. The Prime Minister affirmed that their government is propelling Rajasthan, especially South Rajasthan, onto a fast track of development.

Noting that today marks the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, who gave the nation the principle of Antyodaya—upliftment of the person standing on the last rung of society, Shri Modi emphasized that this vision has now become the government’s mission. He stated that the administration is working with a deep sense of service for the welfare of the poor, Dalits, backward classes, and tribal communities.

Criticising the opposition for consistently neglecting the tribal community and failing to understand their needs, the Prime Minister emphasized that it is their government that prioritized tribal welfare by establishing a dedicated ministry, for the first time under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayeeji, a separate ministry for Tribal affairs was made. The Prime Minister remarked that during opposition rule, it was unimaginable for such large-scale projects to reach tribal regions. He affirmed that under their government, these developments are now becoming a reality. He announced the launch of a major PM MITRA Park in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, which will bring significant benefits to tribal farmers.

Mentioning that it is through the efforts of their party that the daughter of a poor tribal family, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, has become the President of India, Shri Modi highlighted that the President herself raised the issue of the most marginalized tribal communities, which inspired the launch of the PM Janman Yojana. Under this initiative, special priority is being given to the most deprived segments within tribal society. The Prime Minister noted that through the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, tribal villages are being modernized, benefiting over five crore tribal citizens. He added that hundreds of Eklavya Model Residential Schools are being established across the country. The Prime Minister affirmed that the government has also recognized the forest rights of forest dwellers and Scheduled Tribes.

“India’s tribal communities have been sustainably using forest resources for thousands of years”, said Shri Modi. To ensure these resources become a means of progress for them, the government launched the Van Dhan Yojana. He highlighted that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for forest produce has been increased and tribal products have been linked to market access. As a result, the Prime Minister noted, India has witnessed record growth in forest produce across the country.

Affirming the government’s commitment to ensuring that the tribal community lives with dignity, the PM stated that protecting their faith, self-respect, and cultural heritage is a solemn resolve. He emphasized that when the life of an ordinary citizen becomes easier, they themselves take the lead in driving the nation’s progress. He recalled the dire conditions 11 years ago under opposition rule, attributing them to exploitation and systemic looting of citizens. He pointed out that during that period, taxes and inflation were at record highs. The Prime Minister remarked that once the people blessed their government, it put an end to the opposition’s exploitative practices.

Shri Modi stated that the implementation of GST in 2017 liberated the country from the complex web of taxes and tolls. He highlighted that on the first day of Navratri this year, a major GST reform was introduced, resulting in the celebration of the GST Savings Festival across India. The Prime Minister remarked that most everyday items have become more affordable. Addressing the large gathering of women present, he emphasized that household kitchen expenses have significantly reduced, bringing direct relief to mothers and sisters nationwide.

Highlighting that before 2014, spending ₹100 on daily essentials like soap, shampoo, toothpaste, and tooth powder resulted in a total cost of ₹131 due to high taxation under the opposition government, Shri Modi stated that opposition levied ₹31 tax on every ₹100 purchase. With the implementation of GST in 2017, the same ₹100 worth of goods cost ₹118, marking a direct saving of ₹13 under their government. Following the GST reforms introduced on September 22, the cost has further reduced to ₹105, resulting in a total saving of ₹26 compared to the previous dispensation era. The Prime Minister emphasized that mothers and sisters meticulously manage household budgets, and under the new tax regime, families are now saving hundreds of rupees every month.

Highlighting that footwear is a basic necessity for all, the Prime Minister stated that under the previous dispensation’s rule, purchasing a ₹500 shoe cost ₹575 due to a ₹75 tax burden. With the implementation of GST, this tax was reduced by ₹15. Following the latest GST reforms, the same shoe now costs ₹50 less. The Prime Minister noted that earlier, footwear priced above ₹500 attracted even higher taxes. He emphasized that the government has now significantly reduced tax rates on shoes priced up to ₹2,500, making them more affordable for the common citizen.

Shri Modi further stated that owning a scooter or motorcycle is a common aspiration for every household, but under the opposition rule, even this was out of reach. He highlighted that opposition levied over ₹19,000 in tax on a ₹60,000 motorcycle. With the introduction of GST in 2017, this tax was reduced by ₹2,500. Following the revised rates implemented on September 22, the same motorcycle now attracts only ₹10,000 in tax—resulting in a direct benefit of ₹9,000 compared to 2014.

The Prime Minister stated that under the previous dispensation rule, building a home was prohibitively expensive. He highlighted that a ₹300 cement bag attracted over ₹90 in taxes. With the introduction of GST in 2017, this tax was reduced by approximately ₹10. Following the latest GST reforms implemented on September 22, the same cement bag now incurs only ₹50 in tax—resulting in a direct saving of ₹40 compared to 2014. Shri Modi remarked that while governance under the opposition party was marked by excessive taxation, their government has ushered in an era of savings for the common citizen.

Emphasising that amid the GST Savings Festival, Shri Modi said that we should not forget the goal of Self-Reliant India. He added that the mantra of swadeshi must not be forgotten, Shri Modi urged that what we sell should be swadeshi, and what we buy must also be swadeshi. He encouraged citizens to proudly declare, “This is swadeshi.” The Prime Minister remarked that when people buy swadeshi products, the money stays within the country—reaching local artisans, workers, and traders. This money contributes directly to national development rather than flowing abroad, helping build new highways and roads. He called on everyone to make swadeshi a symbol of national pride. The Prime Minister appealed to citizens to pledge to buy only swadeshi goods during the festive season and once again extended his congratulations on the launch of development and employment-linked projects.

The Governor of Rajasthan, Shri Haribhau Kisanrao Bagade, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Shri Bhajanlal Sharma, Union Minister, Shri Pralhad Joshi were present among other dignitaries at the event.

PM addresses the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show at Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh

| Published on:

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated and addressed the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show 2025 in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh today. Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister welcomed all traders, investors, entrepreneurs, and young participants attending the UP International Trade Show. He expressed happiness that over 2,200 exhibitors are showcasing their products and services at the event. Shri Modi highlighted that Russia is the country partner for this edition of the trade show, underscoring the strengthening of a time-tested partnership. He congratulated Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, government colleagues, and other stakeholders for organizing the event. The Prime Minister noted that the occasion coincides with the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, who guided the nation on the path of Antyodaya—upliftment of the last person in the queue. He emphasized that Antyodaya means ensuring development reaches even the poorest, eliminating all forms of discrimination. He further remarked that India is now offering this very model of inclusive development to the world.

Citing an example, the Prime Minister noted the global recognition of India’s Fintech sector. He highlighted that its most significant feature is its contribution to inclusive development. Shri Modi emphasized that India has built open platforms that take everyone along—such as UPI, Aadhaar, DigiLocker, and ONDC—offering equal opportunities to all. He underscored the principle of “Platforms for All, Progress for All.” The Prime Minister remarked that the impact of these platforms is visible across India, with both mall shoppers and street-side tea vendors using UPI. He pointed out that formal credit, once accessible only to large companies, now reaches street vendors through the PM SVANidhi scheme.

Citing the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) as another transformative example, Shri Modi recalled that there was a time when selling goods to the government was limited to large players. Today, nearly 25 lakh sellers and service providers are connected to the GeM portal. These include small traders, entrepreneurs, and shopkeepers who are now able to sell directly to the Government of India. The Prime Minister highlighted that the government has procured goods and services worth ₹15 lakh crore through GeM so far. Of this, approximately ₹7 lakh crore worth of purchases have been made from MSMEs and small industries. He remarked that such a scenario was unimaginable under previous governments. Now, even a small shopkeeper in a remote corner of the country is selling products on the GeM portal. The Prime Minister emphasized that this is the essence of Antyodaya and the foundation of India’s development model.

Underlining that India is advancing toward its goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047, the Prime Minister emphasised, “Despite global disruptions and uncertainty, India’s growth remains attractive”. He remarked that disruptions do not divert India—they reveal new directions. Amidst these challenges, India is laying a strong foundation for the coming decades. Shri Modi reiterated that the nation’s resolve and guiding mantra is Aatmanirbhar Bharat. He asserted that there is no greater helplessness than dependence on others. In a changing world, the more a country relies on others, the more its growth is compromised. “India must become self-reliant. Every product that can be made in India must be produced in India”, stressed the Prime Minister. Addressing the large gathering of entrepreneurs, traders, and innovators, the Prime Minister noted that they are key stakeholders in the Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign, urging them to design business models that strengthen India’s self-reliance.

Underscoring that the government is strongly focused on Make in India and boosting domestic manufacturing, the Prime Minister emphasized the vision to produce everything from chips to ships within the country. To support this, the government is continuously working to enhance Ease of Doing Business. Shri Modi highlighted that over 40,000 compliances have been eliminated, and hundreds of rules that previously led to legal cases over minor business errors have been decriminalized. He affirmed that the government stands shoulder to shoulder with entrepreneurs. However, he also shared key expectations, urging that all manufactured products must be of the highest quality. The Prime Minister noted that citizens increasingly expect consistent improvement in the quality of indigenous products and stressed that there must be no compromise on quality. He remarked that every Indian is now connecting with swadeshi and wants to buy local products. The sentiment of proudly saying “this is swadeshi” is being felt across the country. He called on traders to adopt this mantra and prioritize products that are made in India.

The Prime Minister underscored the critical importance of research, stating that investment in this domain must increase manifold. He affirmed that the government has already taken necessary steps to support this expansion. Shri Modi emphasized that private investment in research is now imperative and must be actively pursued. He described this as a demand of the times and called for the creation of a comprehensive ecosystem for indigenous research, design, and development.

Highlighting that Uttar Pradesh is brimming with extraordinary investment potential, the Prime Minister noted that the connectivity revolution in recent years has significantly reduced logistics costs. Uttar Pradesh now has the highest number of expressways in the country and leads in the number of international airports. It serves as a hub for two major dedicated freight corridors. Shri Modi remarked that UP ranks number one in heritage tourism, and initiatives like Namami Gange have placed the state on the cruise tourism map. He emphasized that the One District One Product scheme has enabled products from various districts in UP to reach international markets. In manufacturing, UP is setting new records, especially in electronics and mobile production. The Prime Minister stated that India has become the world’s second-largest mobile producer in the past decade, with UP playing a major role—producing nearly 55 percent of all mobile phones manufactured in the country. He added that UP will also strengthen India’s self-reliance in the semiconductor sector, with a major semiconductor facility set to begin operations just a few kilometers away.

Shri Modi cited the defence sector as another key example, stating that India’s armed forces seek indigenous solutions and aim to reduce external dependence. “In India, we are developing a vibrant defence sector, creating an ecosystem where every component bears the mark of ‘Made in India’”, emphasised the Prime Minister highlighting Uttar Pradesh’s significant role in this transformation, noting that production of AK-203 rifles will soon commence at a factory established with Russian collaboration. He added that a Defence Corridor is being developed in UP, where manufacturing of BrahMos missiles and other weapon systems has already begun. The Prime Minister urged all stakeholders to invest and manufacture in Uttar Pradesh, which boasts a robust and expanding network of millions of MSMEs. He encouraged leveraging their capabilities to produce complete products within the state. He assured that both the Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Government of India stand ready to provide full support.

Affirming that India stands firmly with its industries, traders, and citizens, driven by the commitment to Reform, Perform, and Transform, Shri Modi highlighted that just three days ago, next-generation GST reforms were implemented, describing them as ‘structural changes that will propel India’s growth story’. These reforms will simplify GST registration, reduce tax disputes, and accelerate refunds for MSMEs, benefiting every sector. The Prime Minister noted that stakeholders have experienced three distinct phases—pre-GST, post-GST, and now the next-generation GST reforms—and emphasized the significant difference they have made. He illustrated this with examples, stating that before 2014, the multitude of taxes made it difficult to manage both business costs and household budgets. A shirt priced at ₹1,000 attracted nearly ₹170 in taxes before 2014. After the introduction of GST in 2017, this dropped to ₹50. With the revised rates effective from September 22, the same ₹1,000 shirt now incurs only ₹35 in tax.

Elaborating further, the Prime Minister illustrated the tangible benefits of GST reforms with a relatable example. He noted that in 2014, spending ₹100 on essentials like toothpaste, shampoo, hair oil, and shaving cream incurred ₹31 in taxes, making the bill ₹131. After the introduction of GST in 2017, the same ₹100 worth of goods cost ₹118, resulting in a direct saving of ₹13. With the latest generation of GST reforms, this cost has further reduced to ₹105—yielding a total saving of ₹26 compared to pre-2014 rates. Shri Modi emphasized that this reflects significant monthly savings for ordinary families. He explained that a household spending ₹1 lakh annually on necessities in 2014 would have paid ₹20,000–₹25,000 in taxes. Today, under the new GST regime, the same family pays only ₹5,000–₹6,000 annually, as most essential items now attract just 5 percent GST.

Emphasising the pivotal role of tractors in India’s rural economy, the Prime Minister noted that prior to 2014, purchasing a tractor incurred over ₹70,000 in taxes. Today, the same tractor attracts only ₹30,000 in tax, resulting in a direct saving of more than ₹40,000 for farmers. He highlighted that three-wheelers, a major source of employment for the poor, previously attracted ₹55,000 in tax, which has now reduced to ₹35,000—yielding a ₹20,000 saving. Similarly, due to lower GST rates, scooters are now ₹8,000 cheaper and motorcycles ₹9,000 cheaper compared to 2014. Shri Modi remarked that these savings benefit the poor, neo-middle class, and middle class alike. Despite this, he cautioned that certain political parties are attempting to mislead the public. He criticised the opposition parties of spreading falsehoods to cover up their own governance failures, asserting that during their tenure, excessive taxation burdened ordinary citizens. The Prime Minister stated that his government has significantly reduced taxes, curbed inflation, and increased both income and savings for the people. He noted that by making income up to ₹12 lakh tax-free and implementing new GST reforms, citizens are set to save ₹2.5 lakh crore this year alone. He declared that the nation is celebrating the GST Savings Festival and affirmed that, with public support, the momentum of GST reforms will continue unabated.
