Both leaders agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation further

     Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s historic visit to Cyprus on June 15–16, 2025, marked a significant milestone in India’s diplomatic engagement with the Eastern Mediterranean. This was the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the island nation in over two decades and strategically reinforcing bilateral cooperation in trade, defence, maritime connectivity, and diplomacy. This landmark visit highlights the enduring friendship and trusted partnership between our two countries. In his remarks to the media, Prime Minister Shri Modi spoke of the strategic direction of the India-Cyprus partnership. India-Cyprus partnership also assumes importance in the larger context of the India-EU strategic partnership and India’s growing engagement with the Mediterranean region.

On arrival in Cyprus, ceremonial welcome was accorded to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia. Following this, the two leaders met for a tete-a-tete and delegation-level talks and a working lunch. President Christodoulides conferred upon Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III. This is the highest honour bestowed by Cyprus on foreign Heads of Government. Both leaders addressed a high-level business roundtable in the city of Limassol. They highlighted the importance of the growing investment, trade and technology ties.

A joint statement on the partnership was issued. The leaders reviewed progress in the ongoing bilateral cooperation and agreed to deepen it further. They discussed trade and investment, defense, fintech, maritime and shipping, connectivity including IMEC initiative, mobility and people-to-people ties.


PM Modi’s Historic First Visit to Croatia Boosts Bilateral Ties

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 18 June arrived in Zagreb, marking the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Croatia since diplomatic ties began in 1992. He was warmly greeted at the airport by Croatian PM Andrej Plenković with a ceremonial welcome, including traditional Indian dance and slogans from the local Indian diaspora.

Shri Narendra Modi met with the President of the Republic of Croatia, H.E. Zoran Milanović in Zagreb. The two leaders held discussions on various aspects of bilateral relations. They reiterated their commitment to close and friendly ties between the two countries, based on shared values of democracy, rule of law and shared goal of international peace and stability. They expressed satisfaction at the diversification of bilateral cooperation in newer areas such as defence, start-up, sports and innovation. Shri Modi thanked President Milanovic for Croatia’s strong support and solidarity extended to India in its fight against terrorism. The leaders also discussed close cultural linkages dating back many centuries which bind the two countries. They also discussed regional and global issues of mutual interest. They noted that India-EU strategic partnership has deepened in recent times, and this would add value to India-Croatia relations in several ways. The two leaders agreed to work together to unlock the full potential of India-Croatia ties.
