Cabinet Approval for Semiconductor Manufacturing Units

     The Union Cabinet, on 12th August, approved the establishment of semiconductor manufacturing units in the states of Odisha, Punjab, and Andhra Pradesh, with a total expenditure of ₹4,600 crore. This decision marks a significant step in India’s vision of becoming self-reliant in the field of semiconductor production and advancing its technological ecosystem.

Semiconductors are the backbone of modern electronics, powering devices ranging from mobile phones and automobiles to defense systems and artificial intelligence. Currently, India is heavily dependent on imports to meet its semiconductor demand, making domestic production a critical necessity.
