Bollywood actor and former BJP MP Dharmendra is no more
Legendary Bollywood actor and former BJP Lok Sabha Member Shri Dharmendra Deol (1935 -2025), lovingly known as the He-Man of Indian Cinema, passed away on 24 November 2025 at the age of 89. His demise marks the end of an era for Indian cinema and public life. Born as Dharam Singh Deol in 1935 in Punjab, Shri Dharmendra rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most celebrated actors in Indian film history. He did more than 300 films, leaving behind a legacy unmatched in Indian cinema. His screen presence, natural charm, and versatility made him a favourite across generations. Beyond films, Shri Dharmendra also served the nation as a Member of Parliament (BJP) from 2004 to 2009, representing Bikaner, Rajasthan.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi took to social media to pay tribute to Shri Dharmendra. He called Dharmendra “an iconic film personality, a phenomenal actor” whose “passing marks the end of an era in Indian cinema.” He added that Dharmendra brought “charm and depth to every role” and was loved not only for his acting but also for his “simplicity, humility, and warmth.” Shri Modi expressed his heartfelt sympathies to Dharmendra’s family, friends, and countless fans, concluding.
The BJP National President Shri JP Nadda in a post on X wrote “The demise of the renowned film actor Dharmendra ji is an irreparable loss for Indian cinema and the art world. Through his impactful acting, he has left an indelible mark on the hearts of cinema lovers. With his simplicity and vibrant performances, he has ruled the hearts of art lovers in the country and the world for decades. In this difficult time, my deepest condolences are with the grieving family and his fans. I pray to God that the departed soul finds a place at His divine feet and grants strength to the bereaved family to bear this sorrow. Om Shanti!”
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah described Shri Dharmendra’s death as an irreplaceable loss to Indian cinema, praising his six-decade-long contribution and saying that through his art, Dharmendra will forever remain among us. Several other leaders also paid tribute to the departed soul.
