Major thrust of the discussion was on economic engagement

      Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi visited Russia on July 9 to attend the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit. The ceremonial welcome and the Guard of Honour were given at the airport on his arrival. The Prime Minister was received by the Deputy Prime Minister, Manturov. On July 9, a private dinner was held by the Russian President for the Prime Minister of India as a special gesture. In the morning of July 10, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi interacted with the Indian community. The Prime Minister laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier earlier that day. Thereafter, the Prime Minister visited the Rosatom exhibition place, where he was accompanied by President Putin.

Further, the two leaders held, in fact, continued their detailed discussions at the Kremlin on the 10th July. The first round of detailed, extensive, wide-ranging discussion between the two leaders took place actually at the private dinner on July 9 and the 10th July discussion was a continuation of some of the important areas of bilateral cooperation and regional developments, at the talks between the two leaders.

The agenda of discussion between the two leaders was principally economic, dominated the discussions both but also included elements relating to cooperation between the two countries in the political sphere, larger space of economic engagement covering extensively trade, capital linkages, energy, science and technology cooperation. Defense and Security was also another element of the discussion and the larger development of a situation regionally and globally.
The two leaders also reviewed status of bilateral engagement and multilateral groupings including BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the United Nations. The major thrust of the discussion was on economic engagement. Both coutries signednine MoUs/agreements in the areas of economic cooperation, environment, science-tech, international cooperation, defence and security.

The highest national honour of Russia ‘the Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle’ was conferred to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, for his outstanding contribution to India-Russia ties. This award was announced in 2019.

Russian President Mr. Vladimir Putin, during a separate event in Moscow, has conferred Russia’s biggest civilian award.
