The ‘Namo Drone Didi’ scheme serves as the bedrock of the ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’ resolve. It stands as a successful model of revolutionary agricultural reform and women’s empowerment— one that can serve as a precedent for other developing nations across the globe
Contemporary India is witnessing a remarkable synthesis of technology and tradition. Launched under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the ‘Namo Drone Didi’ scheme has proven to be a game-changer, transforming the socio-economic landscape of rural India. This initiative not only emphasizes the modernization of agriculture but also elevates women— who for centuries were confined within the four walls of their homes or limited to manual labor in the fields— to new heights of dignity and self-reliance by empowering them as ‘Drone Pilots.’ This innovation by the BJP government stands as a symbol of its unwavering commitment to placing ‘Nari Shakti’ at the very heart of the rural economy.
As an agrarian nation, India has long faced the formidable challenge of reducing farming costs while simultaneously boosting productivity. Drone technology has emerged as an effective solution to this persistent problem. Previously, farmers would spray pesticides by lugging heavy pumps on their backs— a laborious process that was both time-consuming and fraught with health risks. Now, thanks to drones, it has become possible to spray Nano-Urea or pesticides across a one-acre field in a mere 15 to 20 minutes. This not only results in the conservation of resources but also actively promotes ‘Precision Farming.’ This technology has rendered agriculture smarter and more scientific, thereby safeguarding both soil fertility and crop quality.
The most impactful aspect of this scheme is its focus on women. The Central Government has set a target of providing drones to 15,000 women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and imparting training to them. The government is offering a substantial subsidy of up to 80 percent (capped at Rs. 8 lakh) on the purchase of these drones. This investment is not merely in machinery, but in rural leadership.
When a rural woman holds a remote control and flies a drone across the sky, she is not merely spraying fertilizers; she is shattering stereotypes and generating a new source of income for her family and village. Today, trained ‘Drone Didis’ are earning a monthly income ranging from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 1 lakh—a feat that is translating the Modi government’s resolve to create ‘Lakhpati Didis’ into tangible reality on the ground.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi firmly believes that 21st-century India will forge ahead on the twin pillars of ‘Technology’ and ‘Trust.’ The ‘Drone Didi’ scheme stands as a living testament to this very philosophy. This initiative is also proving instrumental in curbing rural-to-urban migration in search of employment, as high-tech-based livelihood opportunities are now available right within the villages themselves. Through collaboration with fertilizer companies and Krishi Vigyan Kendras, measures are being taken to ensure that these women receive not only the necessary equipment but also continuous technical support and access to markets.
In conclusion, the ‘Namo Drone Didi’ scheme serves as the bedrock of the ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’ resolve. It stands as a successful model of revolutionary agricultural reform and women’s empowerment— one that can serve as a precedent for other developing nations across the globe. When the daughters and daughters-in-law of our villages take the lead in technology, the entire society progresses. This initiative by the BJP government has made it abundantly clear that the India of the future will be both digital and inclusive— a nation where the heights of the sky are no longer beyond the reach of our rural women.
