Rajnath Singh proposes Narendra Modi as NDA Parliamentary Party leader
Senior BJP leader Shri Rajnath Singh proposed Shri Narendra Modi’s name as the leader of the NDA Parliamentary Party and the proposal was seconded by senior BJP leaders Shri Amit Shah and Shri Nitin Gadkari as well as top NDA leaders.
At a meeting of the NDA Parliamentary Party at the Central Hall of Old Parliament House (Samvidhan Sadan) in New Delhi Shri Singh also credited Shri Modi for expanding the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance and said this grouping is not a compulsion but a commitment for the BJP. Following is the full text of his speech:
Friends, first of all, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the newly elected members of the Lok Sabha and convey my best wishes to everyone on this occasion. Friends, as you all know, we have gathered here to elect the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s parliamentary party, the leader of the NDA parliamentary party, and the leader in the Lok Sabha. I believe that Modi Ji’s name is the most suitable, appropriate, and best for all these positions.
Friends, I say this because, as his colleague in the cabinet, I have personally witnessed his efficiency, skill, foresight, and authenticity. And not only I but the entire nation has seen this. It is a matter of joy for all of us that the NDA government, under his leadership, has served the country in such a way that it is being praised not only in India but also in other countries around the world. We are fortunate that for the third time, our NDA government is going to be formed. Friends, for the first time since 1962, a politician is going to become the Prime Minister of India for three consecutive terms.
As far as I know, friends, in democratic countries around the world, if anyone is getting this opportunity for the third time, it is our NDA. Friends, we are fortunate to have a welfare-oriented and sensitive Prime Minister like Modi Ji. His leadership skills, efficiency, and vision have led to the growth of our NDA family. We have been recognised as a family that upholds the principles of coalition politics, and this tradition began when the respected Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji was the Prime Minister of India.
I want to make it clear that our alliance is not a compulsion for us but a commitment. We have to take India forward as a capable, prosperous, developed, proud, and strong nation. Over the past ten years, under Modi Ji’s leadership, there has been a revolutionary change in India’s condition, direction, and mindset. Today, the country has reached a stage where not only the nation but the whole world believes that India has the capability to lead and provide new direction to the world while developing itself.
Friends, today, the country is progressing towards strengthening itself not just for decades but for centuries. And I believe that to accelerate this work there is no better name than Modi Ji. Therefore, I propose the name of the honourable Narendra Modi Ji as the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s parliamentary party, the leader of the NDA parliamentary party, and the leader of the Lok Sabha.
