Bharatiya Janata Party National President Shri Nitin Nabin, while addressing the ‘Kamal Mela’ programme held in Durgapur, West Bengal on Tuesday, paid tribute to Bengal’s rich cultural, intellectual and artistic heritage and underscored the decisive role of a Viksit Bengal in the resolve of achieving a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047. Before the event, Shri Nabin was accorded a grand welcome at Durgapur Airport, where party Karyakartas received him with traditional drums and music. From the airport to the venue, local residents and BJP Karyakartas gathered at several points along the route to greet him warmly with flower showers and slogans. During the programme, BJP State President Shri Samik Bhattacharya, Leader of the Opposition Shri Suvendu Adhikari, BJP National General Secretary and West Bengal in-charge Shri Sunil Bansal, senior Bihar government minister Shri Mangal Pandey, Union Minister Shri Sukanta Majumdar, Shri Nisith Pramanik, former State President Shri Dilip Ghosh, MP Shri Saumitra Khan, and several other leaders were present.

Shri Nitin Nabin noted that the fair was being inaugurated by paying obeisance to the image of Bharat Mata, and that since assuming charge as the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, this was the first time he had come to the land of Bengal and begun a programme by offering salutations to the image of Bharat Mata. The land of Bengal has been home to great leaders such as Raja Ram Mohan Roy, who gave a new identity to the entire nation and to Indian culture as a whole, and that through this fair, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar should also be remembered for taking forward issues related to the state and giving new direction not only to the state but to the entire country. On this day, poet Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore should also be remembered for establishing and reviving the ashram system of education for modern India and for founding institutions such as Shantiniketan, which have always carried forward Indian culture and Indian thought. On this day, renowned artist Nandalal Bose should also be remembered, whose art gave the country a distinct identity and whose works can still be seen in the Constitution today.

BJP National President remarked that Shri Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay gave Vande Mataram, whose 150th anniversary is being celebrated, and through which the faith of the nation, the spirit of national awakening and the freedom struggle were kept alive. This land has produced many warriors and saints, among whom the name of Ramakrishna Paramhansa is inscribed in invaluable letters, and that Swami Vivekananda, the inspiration for the youth, should also be remembered on this day. Among the many artists of this land, the renowned great actor Uttam Kumar should be remembered today, who, through his art created recognition across India and the world and established Bengal on the global stage. Kazi Nazrul Islam should also be remembered, whose efforts gave Bengal’s culture and art a distinct place, and Satyajit Ray should also be remembered on this day.

Shri Nabin noted that the efforts being made through this Kamal Mela to promote Bengal’s culture deserve heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to the entire team. Bengal’s cultural heritage has always remained at the forefront, and in the past, too, Bengal’s culture has given direction to the nation. That Bengal has been witnessed whose education system guided the entire world. Through this Mela, efforts are being made to connect the new generation with the field of art, Indian culture and Bengal’s culture, and this programme will also inspire the coming generations to further carry forward their cultural heritage. Such fairs provide a major platform to local artists and those associated with cottage industries, enabling them to conduct their business and expand their small enterprises. Through the Kamal Mela, the West Bengal unit has, on one hand, promoted culture in a better form and provided opportunities to artists, and on the other hand, offered a strong platform to small entrepreneurs as well, for which everyone deserves heartfelt congratulations.

Shri Nitin Nabin asserted that Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji always remains concerned about how Bengal should move forward. If India is to become a Viksit Bharat by 2047, then Bengal must also become a Viksit Bengal, because this goal is not possible without a Viksit Bengal. To make Bengal developed, its culture, its soil and its art must be taken forward, and today this effort is being made in that direction, for which the state unit deserves appreciation. Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji believes that youth should be provided with employment as well as new opportunities and be guided in the right direction. If today’s youth move forward in politics or in any field of society, patience is essential in their lives. Everyone is connected to the words of the leader and guide Swami Vivekananda, who said, “Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is achieved.” Today’s youth must understand that whatever their goal in life may be, they must struggle for it and continue making consistent efforts, because if the coming generation and the future are to be shaped and a Viksit Bharat by 2047 is to be achieved, the youth of today will have a very significant contribution. Shri Nabin called upon the youth to give their full contribution towards building a Viksit Bharat and a Viksit Bengal.

BJP National President expressed deep condolences for the workers who lost their lives in the tragic fire incident in Anandpur. The entire BJP family, along with its Karyakartas and their families, stands firmly with the bereaved families and will continue to stand with them, because if anyone can share the pain of each family, it is the BJP family. Shri Nabin extended his best wishes once again to everyone on the occasion of the Mela and urged the state unit to continue organising such programmes regularly. The Bharatiya Janata Party remains committed to the people of Bengal and is fully determined to take the people of Bengal forward, and the BJP will always remain concerned about ensuring the progress of Bengal’s youth and Bengal’s women.

Shri Nabin stated that this is the land of the Maa, where from Durga Navratri to the worship of Maa Kali, the culture of Bengal creates a distinct place for itself across the country. In this worship of the Maa and the reverence of Shakti, we salute the maternal power that has always carried this tradition forward. We salute the people of Bengal for, through Maa Durga, binding the entire nation together in one thread and one collective strength.
