Union Home Minister launches Vibrant Village Programme-II in Nathanpur (Assam)

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah addressed the launch programme of ‘Vibrant Villages Programme–II’ held in Nathanpur, Assam on 20 February 2026. Shri Shah said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, rapid efforts are being made through the Vibrant Villages Programme–II to develop border villages as the “first villages” of the country. This initiative is giving new momentum to basic infrastructure, security and development in border areas, including Assam.

The Union Home Minister said that in the past ten years the BJP government has carried out unprecedented development in Assam, whereas previous Congress governments had neglected the state. Shri Shah appealed to the people to vote for the BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections and form a BJP government in the state once again.

The programme was attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP State President Dilip Saikia, President of Asom Gana Parishad and Assam’s Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Rajya Sabha MP Kanad Purkayastha, and several other leaders.

Beginning of Vibrant Villages Programme–II

Shri Shah said that in a way, today marks the beginning of Vibrant Villages Programme–II, through which Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated efforts to ensure that border villages receive the same facilities as other villages in the country. Through this programme, basic infrastructure will be strengthened in every village of Assam’s border districts, including the Barak Valley.

The Union Home Minister said that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who gave border villages the identity of being the country’s “first villages.” Under Vibrant Villages Programme–II, about ₹7,000 crore will be spent to cover 334 blocks and 1,954 villages across 17 states, including 26 blocks and 140 villages in nine districts of Assam. All facilities available in other villages of India will be provided to these 140 villages in Assam.

Along with Assam, the programme will also cover villages along international borders in Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Shri Shah said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam has witnessed remarkable development over the past five years, with an average of 14 km of roads constructed daily, the highest in the country. More than 24,000 km of roads have been upgraded, several culverts and bridges have been built, and in the past ten years the BJP’s double-engine government has dedicated four major bridges to the people of Assam.

With Assembly elections approaching in April, Shri Shah appealed to the people of Assam to vote for the BJP by pressing the lotus symbol, strengthen the hands of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and once again form a BJP government in the state.
