Summit reaffirmes deep civilizational and strategic ties with Japan

PM attended 15th India-Japan Annual Summit

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi embarked on a two-day visit to Japan from August 29 to 30, 2025, marked by the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit—his first standalone bilateral summit with Japanese Prime Minister Mr. Shigeru Ishiba. The summit reaffirmed the nations’ Special Strategic and Global Partnership, rooted in deep civilizational and strategic ties.

Upon arrival in Tokyo, the Prime Minister received a ceremonial welcome from the Government and people of Japan, alongside the enthusiastic Indian diaspora. His first engagement was the India-Japan Economic Forum, jointly attended with Prime Minister Ishiba, where both leaders addressed business leaders from both nations.
He also met former Japanese Prime Ministers Yoshihide Suga and Fumio Kishida, discussing bilateral, regional, and global issues. Later in the evening, Prime Minister Ishiba hosted PM Shri Modi at Kantei, where both leaders held extensive talks, witnessed the exchange of agreements, addressed the press, and shared a formal dinner.

Prime Minister Ishiba hosted a lunch in honour of Prime Minister Shri Modi in Sendai. The Governor of Miyagi Prefecture along with other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
