Prime Minister’s Address in the 124th Episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 27th July in the 124th episode of Mann Ki Baat, touched upon India’s remarkable achievements in science, sports, culture, and public participation. His address celebrated the spirit of innovation, heritage, self-reliance, and collective progress.
The Prime Minister began by expressing national pride at the successful return of astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla from space. His safe landing was an emotional and proud moment for the country. PM Modi recalled the enthusiasm generated by Chandrayaan-3’s success in August 2023, which sparked scientific curiosity in children across India. He shared how children now aspire to become space scientists, a clear reflection of growing scientific temperament.
The INSPIRE-MANAK Abhiyan, which promotes innovation among school students, has seen participation double post-Chandrayaan. Under this program, five students per school submit innovative ideas. With over 200 space start-ups now operating in India—compared to fewer than 50 five years ago—the PM highlighted India’s rising status in space entrepreneurship.
He also encouraged citizens to celebrate National Space Day on 23rd August creatively and to share their ideas through the NaMo App.
Olympiads and Academic Brilliance
India’s academic talents were also applauded. Four Indian students—Devesh Pankaj, Sandeep Kuchi, Debdutt Priyadarshi, and Ujjwal Kesari—won medals at the International Chemistry Olympiad. In the International Mathematical Olympiad held in Australia, Indian students secured 3 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medal. India is also preparing to host the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics in Mumbai, with participation from over 60 countries.
The Prime Minister stressed that India is progressing in both the Olympics and Olympiads, symbolizing holistic national development.
UNESCO Recognition of Maratha Forts
PM Shri Narendra Modi proudly announced that UNESCO has recognized 12 Maratha forts as World Heritage Sites—11 in Maharashtra and 1 in Tamil Nadu. These forts, such as Salher, Shivneri, Pratapgarh, Raigad, Khanderi, and Vijaydurg, represent India’s rich history, resilience, and valor, especially under the leadership of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The Prime Minister emphasized that each stone of these forts tells a story of bravery and sacrifice.
He also acknowledged other majestic forts across India, including Chittorgarh, Kumbhalgarh, Ranthambore, Amer, and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, Gulbarga and Chitradurga in Karnataka, and Kalinjar, Jhansi, and Gwalior in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. He urged citizens to visit these historic sites and embrace the sense of national pride they inspire.
Remembering Freedom Fighters
The PM paid tribute to Khudiram Bose, the young revolutionary hanged by the British at the age of 18. His fearlessness and sacrifice became a symbol of India’s freedom struggle.
