Shri Valmiki Prasad Singh was a District Secretary in the Bharatiya Jana Sangh. He took active role in the movement to ban cow slaughter. In 1971, he contested the Lok Sabha elections from Samastipur on Jana Sangh ticket. During the Emergency Shri Valmiki Prasad was arrested and jailed for eight months under the DIR act (Defence of India Regulations Act).
