The Atal Pension Yojana (APY), launched on 9 May 2015 to provide universal social security for citizens, especially low-income and unorganised-sector workers, has achieved significant progress with 8.34 crore enrolments as on 31 October 2025. Open to individuals aged 18–40 years with a bank or post-office savings account, the scheme assures pension benefits from the age of 60. Women’s participation is particularly noteworthy, with 48% enrolments, amounting to over 4.04 crore female subscribers.
To enhance coverage, the Government and PFRDA have undertaken extensive outreach measures, including multilingual awareness campaigns, digital onboarding through e-APY and mobile platforms, and capacity-building programmes for banking correspondents and self-help groups. Institutions such as NABARD, NCFE, NRLM and SRLM are actively involved in spreading awareness. Regular APY drives and financial inclusion campaigns have further strengthened nationwide adoption. The information was shared by Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman in the Lok Sabha.
