BJP Makes History In Kerala, Gets 1st Ever Mayor In Big Pre-Poll Boost
In a breakthrough moment for the BJP in Kerala, the party secured its first-ever mayoral post in the state after Shri VV Rajesh was elected Mayor of the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, ending nearly four decades of Left dominance in the capital city’s civic body.
Shri Rajesh won the mayoral election held at the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation office with 51 votes in the 101-member council, crossing the halfway mark with the support of an Independent councillor. The election was conducted for 100 seats, as polling could not be held in one ward in Vizhinjam. The LDF candidate P Sivaji received 29 votes, while UDF nominee K S Sabarinathan polled 19 votes.
Apart from Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, the BJP also registered victories in the municipalities of Tripunithura and Palakkad, underlining the party’s gradual expansion in Kerala’s local governance landscape.
The significance of the victory was underscored by PM Shri Narendra Modi, who tweeted: “The mandate the BJP-NDA got in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation is a watershed moment in Kerala’s politics.”
Record victory for BJP-led Mahayuti in Maharashtra local body polls
The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance on 21 December 2025 recorded a sweeping victory in Maharashtra’s local body polls, winning elections to 288 municipal councils and nagar panchayats by securing 207 local body president posts and leaving the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi with a combined total of 44. The BJP has created another record by winning 3,300 councillors in the local body election.
As per the State Election Commission’s data, the BJP emerged as the single largest party with 129 municipal presidents, followed by the Shiv Sena with 53 and the NCP with 37. On the opposition side, the Congress won 28 posts, Shiv Sena (UBT) nine, and the NCP (SP) seven. Other registered parties accounted for four additional posts, while 28 municipal president seats were won by unrecognised registered parties. Independents secured five posts, the Commission said.
PM Shri Narendra Modi hailed the results of the local body polls saying people of Maharastra stand with development. He went on to congratulate the Mahayuti for the victory.
In a post on X the PM said, “Maharashtra stands firmly with development! Grateful to the people of Maharashtra for blessing the BJP and Mahayuti in the Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat elections. This reflects trust in our vision of people-centric development. We remain committed to working with renewed energy to fulfil the aspirations of every citizen across the state. I laud the BJP and Mahayuti Karyakartas for their hardwork at the grassroots.”
In Goa zila panchayat poll results, BJP registers a resounding win
BJP has achieved a landslide victory in the Zilla Panchayat elections in Goa, emerging as the single largest party on 23 December 2025. The ruling alliance of BJP and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) won 32 of the 50 seats in the zila panchayat polls in Goa, the results of which were declared on 22 December, 2025 . The Congress won 10 seats, while its alliance partner Goa Forward Party (GFP) bagged one. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) retained its lone seat, while Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) won two seats. Four independents also got elected.
BJP sweeps local body polls in Arunachal
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party registered a landslide victory in the local body elections in Arunachal Pradesh, securing a majority of seats in the Zilla Parishads and Gram Panchayats, polls for which were held on December 15.
The BJP also scored a decisive win in the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) elections by winning 14 of the 20 wards. The opposition Congress failed to win a single seat in both the IMC and PMC elections.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi lauded the BJP’s impressive performance in the local body polls.
In a post on X, he said, “The people of Arunachal Pradesh show unwavering support for the politics of good governance. I thank the people of Arunachal Pradesh for the affection they have shown towards the BJP.”
“This strengthens our resolve to keep working for the state’s transformation. I appreciate the BJP karyakartas for working tirelessly among the people,” the Prime Minister added.
