The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on 17 August 2025 announced Maharashtra Governor Shri CP Radhakrishnan as its candidate for the upcoming Vice-Presidential election, scheduled to be held on 09 September 2025.
The announcement was made by Bharatiya Janata Party National President and Union Minister Shri JP Nadda during a press conference following the party’s Parliamentary Board meeting held in New Delhi. “At the parliamentary board meeting, we unanimously decided on the VP candidate, Shri CP Radhakrishna. We discussed the VP candidate with all our alliance party (NDA) earlier as well. We will discuss our opposition party as well to smooth the VP election…” Shri Nadda said.
Shri Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan is currently serving as the 24th Governor of Maharashtra, a post he assumed on July 31, 2024. He previously served as the Governor of Jharkhand from February 2023 to July 2024. He also held additional charge as the Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry between March and July 2024. A veteran BJP leader, Shri Radhakrishnan, was elected to the Lok Sabha from Coimbatore twice and previously served as the Tamil Nadu BJP State President.
Election Commission had earlier announced that polling for the Vice-Presidential election will take place on September 9, with counting of votes scheduled for the same day. The last date for filing nominations is August 21, while candidates can withdraw their nominations until August 25.

NDA’s VP Candidate CP Radhakrishnan Files Nomination
NDA’s Vice-Presidential candidate Shri CP Radhakrishnan filed his nomination at Parliament House on 20 August 2025. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Shri Rajnath Singh, Shri Amit Shah, BJP National President & Union Minister Shri JP Nadda, Shri Kiren Rijiju and leaders of NDA allies, including Shri Chirag Paswan of LJP (R), Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh of JD (U), Shri Praful Patel of NCP, among others, were present on the occasion.
Ahead of filing nomination for vice-presidential elections, Shri CP Radhakrishnan paid floral tributes at Prerna Sthal in Parliament House complex, which houses statues of India’s eminent leaders and freedom fighters. He first bowed before the statue of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, and then paid tributes to other noted personalities.
