Mann Ki Baat
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, in the 133rd episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, addressed the nation. In the programme he discussed on clean energy, the nuclear programme, Buddhist philosophy, the bamboo industry in the Northeast, and the digital census. He said that India has always linked science with national progress, and with this vision, Indian scientists are continuously working to make the country self-reliant and developed.
Referring to the fast breeder reactor at Kalpakkam in Tamil Nadu achieving “criticality,” the Prime Minister described it as a historic milestone in India’s nuclear energy journey. He said the reactor has been built entirely with indigenous technology and is capable of producing energy while also generating new fuel for the future. Recalling his visit during the reactor’s core loading in March 2024, the Prime Minister praised the contribution of scientists and said the achievement would provide fresh momentum to the vision of a “Developed India.”
Highlighting India’s progress in clean energy, the Prime Minister said the country’s wind energy production capacity has crossed 56 gigawatts, with nearly 6 gigawatts of new capacity added in the past year alone. He noted that India now ranks fourth globally in wind energy capacity. Renewable energy parks in states such as Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan are creating employment opportunities, developing new skills, and driving growth. He also urged citizens to conserve electricity and adopt clean energy practices.
The Prime Minister described the teachings of Gautama Buddha as highly relevant even today, saying that Buddha’s ideas offer a path of peace and compassion in times of global tension and conflict. He also referred to efforts in Chile to spread Buddhist values and appreciated the work being carried out under the guidance of Drubpon Otzer Rinpoche.
Speaking about the success of the bamboo sector in Northeast India, the Prime Minister said that the 2017 decision to remove bamboo from the category of trees brought transformative change. It has accelerated employment, innovation, and business opportunities in the region, while also benefiting women significantly.
The World’s Largest Census
Prime Minister Shri Modi said that a very important campaign is currently underway in our country, about which every Indian must be aware. This is the Census Campaign, the world’s largest census.
He said that for those who have already undergone such a process, their experience with this census will be different. Census 2027 has been made digital. All information is being recorded directly on the digital medium. The door-to-door workers have a mobile app. They will enter your information after talking to you.
He said that this time your participation in the census has been made easier; you can enter your information yourself. This facility will open for you 15 days before the worker’s arrival. You can enter the information as per your convenience. When you complete the process, you will receive a special ID. This ID is sent to your mobile phone or email. Later, when the employee visits your home, you can verify your information by showing this ID. This eliminates the need to enter information again.
This saves time and simplifies the process. He said that in states where self-enumeration has been completed, census staff have also begun the work of listing households. So far, the house listing work of approximately 12 million families has been completed. Mr. Modi said that the country’s census is not just a government job. It is the responsibility of all of us. Your participation is essential. The information you provide is completely secure, kept confidential, and protected with digital security. Let us all participate in this process together. Make Census 2027 a success.
