One Year of India’s Resolve Against Terror

On April 22, 2025, India was shaken by one of the most devastating terror attacks in recent years when terrorists opened fire on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 innocent civilians.

In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, a large-scale counter-terror mission aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure operating from Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. As the nation observes the first anniversary of the operation on May 7, 2026, Operation Sindoor is widely regarded as a landmark demonstration of India’s determination to combat terrorism with firmness and precision.

The operation was designed as a strategic and punitive response intended to destroy terror camps, training facilities and operational launchpads used by extremist organisations across the border. Combining military action with strategic restraint, India carried out carefully calibrated strikes focused exclusively on terror-linked targets while ensuring that civilian areas remained unaffected.

The Indian Air Force played a central role in executing the mission through precision strikes on locations including Sawai Nala, Syedna Bilal, Kotli Abbas, Kotli Gulpur, Bhimber, Mehmoona Joya, Sarjal Launchpad, Muridke and Bahawalpur. The success of the operation reflected India’s growing capability to undertake coordinated and intelligence-driven military operations with speed, accuracy and effectiveness.

Demonstrated a high level of coordination

Operation Sindoor also demonstrated a high level of coordination among India’s three armed services — the Indian Army, the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy. The operation highlighted the increasing integration and joint operational capability of India’s military forces, which has become a key aspect of the country’s defence preparedness. In addition, the mission showcased the progress India has made in strengthening indigenous defence manufacturing and advancing the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat in the security sector.
