This is not just a victory for NDA; it is a triumph of democracy: PM Modi

The incumbent National Democratic Alliance (NDA) achieved a decisive and historic victory in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly elections, announced on 14 November 2025. Securing 202 seats, the alliance returned to power with a commanding three-fourths majority. The magnitude of the mandate surpassed all expectations, as the NDA’s sweeping performance left the Opposition Mahagathbandhan trailing far behind.

The NDA comprises five constituents — the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha. The Mahagathbandhan, on the other hand, is an alliance of seven national and regional parties, including the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Indian National Congress (INC), and the Left parties — CPI, CPIML (Liberation), and CPIM.

Within the NDA, the BJP emerged as the single-largest party with 89 seats, followed by JD(U) with 85. Among other alliance partners, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) won 19 seats, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) secured 5, and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha bagged 4. In contrast, the Mahagathbandhan struggled to cross even 50 seats, winning only 34. The RJD secured 25 seats, Congress won 6, while CPIML (Liberation) and CPIM won two and one seat respectively. Several other parties, including Jan Suraj and VIP, failed to open their account despite aggressive campaigns.

The election outcome was overwhelmingly one-sided. The NDA registered 46.52% of the total vote share, significantly ahead of the Mahagathbandhan’s 37.64%. Within the ruling coalition, the BJP polled 20.08%, JD(U) 19.26%, LJP (RV) 4.97%, HAM (S) 1.18%, and RLM 1.03%. In the Opposition bloc, the RJD received 23%, Congress 8.71%, the Left parties 4.18%, VIP 1.38%, and the IIP 0.37%.

Following the NDA’s emphatic triumph, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi hailed the verdict as a victory for democracy and true social justice, marking the definitive end of Jungle Raj in Bihar. He said the mandate would pave the way for a similar victory in West Bengal next year. The Prime Minister added that the NDA had replaced “Tustikaran” (appeasement) with “Santushtikaran” (satisfaction), and that the people had rejected the negative politics of the Congress. Crediting the win to his new MY formula — Mahila (women) and Youth — he said the people of Bihar had voted for a developed and prosperous state “by breaking all records.”

BJP National President Shri JP Nadda praised the “historic public support” from the people of Bihar and highlighted their firm rejection of Jungle Raj and corruption. “This resounding majority is a seal of trust in the development-oriented and public welfare policies of the double-engine government under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar,” he said. He added that the mandate reaffirmed the people’s faith in stability, good governance, and development.

Bihar Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar said the sweeping victory reflected the people’s trust in the NDA’s leadership and track record. In a post on X, he thanked voters for the “massive majority” and expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, for his support throughout the campaign. Acknowledging the unity among alliance partners, he thanked Shri Chirag Paswan, Shri Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Shri Upendra Kushwaha for their contributions. He asserted that Bihar would continue its journey towards becoming one of the most developed states in India.

Throughout the campaign, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi led from the front, energising BJP and NDA Karyakartas and setting the tone for a spirited contest. His rallies and roadshows not only exposed the Mahagathbandhan — particularly the crime and corruption associated with the RJD’s earlier tenure — but also instilled confidence among voters and party workers. Senior BJP leaders, including National President Shri JP Nadda, Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, and Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah, further strengthened the campaign.

The BJP focused on three key themes: women’s empowerment, infrastructure and development, and the strong track record of the incumbent NDA government under Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar — in sharp contrast to the “Jungle Raj” of 1990–2005. This strategy clearly resonated with voters, as NDA candidates won across caste, regional, and religious divides.

The 2025 election also set new records in voter participation. Bihar registered a historic turnout of 67.13% — the highest since 1951, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI). Women voters outperformed men substantially, with a turnout of 71.78% compared to 62.98% among males, marking a milestone in the state’s electoral history. The ECI confirmed that no irregularities were reported and no re-polling was required across any of the 90,740 polling booths.

Gratitude to each and every person of Bihar for blessing the NDA: PM Modi

After the massive victory of the NDA in Bihar, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has expressed gratitude to the people for bringing the NDA back with the biggest mandate ever. In a post on the X, the PM said, “Good governance has won. Development has won. Pro-people spirit has won. Social justice has won.

Gratitude to each and every person of Bihar for blessing the NDA with a historical and unparalleled victory in the 2025 Vidhan Sabha elections. This mandate gives us renewed strength to serve the people and work for Bihar.

I appreciate every NDA Karyakarta for the hardwork they’ve put in over the recent months. They have worked among the people, explained our development agenda and even countered the lies of the Opposition. They are remarkable indeed!

In the coming times, we will do even more for Bihar’s progress, Bihar’s infrastructure and Bihar’s culture. We will ensure that the State’s Yuva Shakti and Nari Shakti get many opportunities to lead a life of prosperity.

The NDA has provided all-round development to the state. People voted for us on the basis of our track record and our vision to take the state to newer heights. I would like to congratulate CM Nitish Kumar Ji and our allies from the NDA family, Chirag Paswan Ji, Jitan Ram Manjhi Ji and Upendra Kushwaha Ji, on this unparalleled victory.” @NitishKumar @iChiragPaswan @jitanrmanjhi @UpendraKushRLM
