The 2026 Rajya Sabha elections witnessed a significant victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which secured 21 out of 37 seats, further strengthening its position in the Upper House of Parliament.

The NDA achieved a clean sweep in Bihar by winning all five seats. Among the key victories was that of BJP National President Shri Nitin Nabin, who was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Bihar. This marks his first entry into the Upper House after an extensive political career, including five consecutive terms as an MLA from the Bankipur constituency in Patna, Bihar. He also served as a Minister in the Government of Bihar, handling portfolios such as Road Construction, Urban Development, and Law from 2021 to 2025.

Shri Nitin Nabin filed his nomination on 5 March 2026 in Patna in the presence of Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah and other senior party leaders.

Following the victory, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and all senior leaders congratulated him. Upon his arrival in Delhi, he was warmly received by party leaders and Karyakartas.

Overall, the NDA’s performance—winning 21 out of 37 seats—has significantly strengthened its numbers in the Rajya Sabha. The alliance not only swept all five seats in Bihar but also secured three out of four seats in Odisha.

The results dealt a notable setback to the opposition, particularly in Bihar and Odisha, and further consolidated the NDA’s position in the Upper House.
