In the recently completed Assembly elections, while the national attention remained largely focused on West Bengal and Assam, the Union Territory of Puducherry delivered another significant political message for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), comprising the All India N.R. Congress (AINRC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), and Latchiya Jananayaka Katchi (LJK). The election outcome reflected the NDA and mainly BJP’s steadily expanding influence in southern India and highlighted its growing organizational strength in every important political arenas.
Following the counting of votes, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) comfortably retained power in Puducherry, securing 18 seats in the 30-member Assembly with a combined vote share of nearly 39 per cent. Among the NDA constituents, the All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) emerged as the principal force, winning 12 seats with 23.12 per cent of the vote share. Its alliance partner, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), secured four seats with a vote share of 12.19 per cent. NDA allies — the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Latchiya Jananayaka Katchi (LJK) — won one seat each, completing the alliance tally.
