PM’s rally in Siliguri, West Bengal

    Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed a huge election rally in Siliguri, North Bengal on 12 April 2026. In his addressed the PM discussed BJP’s vision for the region while launching a strong critique of the ruling TMC. He said, “When heavy rains wreaked havoc in several districts of North Bengal, causing chaos everywhere, the ruthless TMC government was celebrating in Kolkata. TMC is an anti-North Bengal party. TMC is an anti-tribal party. TMC is an anti-tea plantation party. TMC is an anti-women and anti-youth party. That’s why this time in Bengal, it’s resonating everywhere—resonating with confidence, everyone is saying, “This time, change will happen. This time…this time.”

“Appeasement politics”

The Prime Minister criticised the ruling party of neglecting North Bengal and fostering corruption, political violence, and what he described as “appeasement politics.” He characterized TMC as anti-development and alleged that funds provided by the central government were misused or siphoned off through syndicate networks.

Shri Modi highlighted the systemic neglect of the region’s infrastructure, industry, and tourism potential. He emphasized that Siliguri serves as a strategic gateway to the Northeast and plays a vital role in national security. Referring to the Siliguri Corridor, often called the “Chicken’s Neck,” he described it as critical for India’s unity and prosperity. He cited ongoing projects such as the Sevok–Rangpo railway line, which aims to improve connectivity between West Bengal and Sikkim, as examples of the central government’s commitment to regional development.
He also underscored investments in railway modernization, including the introduction of Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat trains, and the construction of new expressways to enhance connectivity between North and South Bengal.

Sports University in North Bengal,

Youth and sports development formed another key component of the speech. Shri Modi announced plans for a Sports University in North Bengal, aimed at nurturing local talent and providing world-class training facilities. He linked this initiative with existing national programs such as Khelo India, asserting that young people in Bengal deserve better opportunities to excel in sports and other fields.

Addressing women voters, he promised enhanced safety measures, including the establishment of women’s police stations and support systems at the block level. He also referred to financial assistance schemes aimed at empowering women and ensuring direct benefit transfers without intermediaries. He criticized the state government over alleged crimes against women and pledged strict action and justice under a BJP-led administration.

He also touched upon the plight of tea garden workers and tribal communities, accusing the state government of failing to provide basic services and development support. Shri Modi urged voters to give the BJP an opportunity to govern the state, promising transparency, development, and security. He framed the upcoming election as adecisive moment for Bengal’s future, calling for an end to fear-based politics and the establishment of a governance model based on trust and accountability.
