    BJP “SANKALP PATRA” FOR ASSAM RELEASED

The Bharatiya Janata Party released its “Sankalp Patra” for the 2026 Assam Assembly Elections in Guwahati on 31 March 2026. It was unveiled by Union Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman in the presence of Union Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal and Assam Chief Minister Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma. The document outlines 31 key promises focused on three main pillars: economic development, social welfare, and the protection of indigenous identity, under the theme “Surakshita Asom, Viksita Asom”. It includes measures to clear illegal encroachment from government land, implement the Immigrants-Expulsion from Assam Act, 1950, and grant land rights to all genuine citizens.

Union Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted the economic growth of the state under the BJP government, stating that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) increased about three times in the last 10 years, while the per capita income has risen from Rs 1.03 lakh in 2020-21 to Rs 1.59 lakh in 2024-25.

The manifesto includes a proposal for a Uniform Civil Code, excluding Sixth Schedule areas and tribal communities. The party has promised two lakh government jobs and implementation of the 8th Pay Commission. It also proposes increasing Orunodoi assistance to 3,000 rupees and free education for the poor from KG to PG. It also proposes investment in expressways and Vande Bharat train projects in the state.

Highlights

-Uniform Civil Code (UCC): Implementation of UCC in Assam, notably excluding tribal communities and Sixth Schedule areas.
-Strict action against illegal encroachment on government and forest lands, including clearing encroached lands belonging to Satras (monasteries).
-Promises of laws against “Love Jihad” and “Land Jihad” to safeguard indigenous culture.
-On the economic front, the BJP has pledged to create two lakh jobs over the next five years.
-A major financial commitment to address Assam’s recurring flood problem, with Rs 18,000 crore to be spent in the first two years to make the state flood-free.
-In terms of infrastructure, the party has proposed a “One District, One Institution” model, promising one medical college, one university, and one engineering college in every district.
-The manifesto emphasises welfare schemes, particularly for women. The government plans to provide Rs 25,000 in financial assistance in the second phase to beneficiaries under the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Scheme and expand the program to create 40 lakh “Lakhpati Baideos”.
-It proposes increasing monthly assistance under the Orunodoi scheme from Rs 1,250 to Rs 3,000 to support household incomes.
-Eastern Gateway: A massive investment of Rs. 5 lakh crore aimed at transforming Assam into India’s “Eastern Gateway”.
-Connectivity: Development of expressways connecting Siliguri, Shillong, Silchar, and Dibrugarh, along with underwater tunnels across the Brahmaputra.
Guwahati Water Metro: Launching water metro systems in Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Tezpur.
-Jobs: A commitment to create 2 lakh government jobs.
-Orunodoi 3.0: Increasing the monthly assistance for women under the Orunodoi scheme to Rs. 3,000.
-Flood Management: Launching the “Badh Mukt Assam Mission” (Flood-Free Assam) with an investment of over Rs. 18,000 crore.
-Education: Free education for the poor from kindergarten (KG) to post-graduation (PG).
