Country’s First PinS Instrument Approach Procedure for Helicopter Operations Approved

 India has achieved a major milestone in aviation safety and technology with the approval of its first Private Point-in-Space (PinS) Instrument Approach Procedure for helicopter operations at Undavalli Heliport. The development has been jointly executed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), in line with ICAO standards and DGCA regulations.

The PinS procedure uses advanced satellite-based navigation to enable helicopters to perform precise instrument approaches to heliports lacking conventional landing infrastructure. This innovation significantly improves operational safety, especially during adverse weather conditions and in remote areas where ground-based navigation aids are unavailable. It will enhance all-weather accessibility, operational efficiency, and reliability of services. The system is expected to benefit critical sectors such as emergency medical services, disaster relief, tourism, offshore operations, pilgrimage connectivity, and regional transport.
