Winter Session 2025, once again recognizes continuous efforts for improvement as a critical pillar of strengthening India’s democratic institutions and safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process. While the opposition tried to politicize the electoral reforms by raising Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process conducted by the Election Commission, it should be borne in mind that such gimmicks would undermine the autonomy of an independent constitutional body. As the entire nation firmly believes that cleaning electoral rolls of illegal entries is essential to protecting the sanctity of every genuine voter’s rights and ensuring that elections reflect the true will of the Indian people, the reply of the Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah in parliament has further convinced the nation of the paramount importance of such exercise for healthy democracy in the country and exposed the lies of Congress led Opposition on the issue of SIR. However, the discussion focused on Electoral Reforms in the broadest sense, encompassing matters such as campaign finance transparency, the role of the Election Commission, the reliability and credibility of voting systems, and measures to curb the influence of money and criminality in politics.
