PM’s visit to three-nation

The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 15 December embarked on a three-nation visit to Jordan, Ethiopia and Oman, countries with deep civilizational links and strong contemporary ties with India. The visit to Jordan marked 75 years of diplomatic relations that included meetings with King Abdullah II, the Prime Minister, the Crown Prince and the Indian community. In Ethiopia, the Prime Minister held talks with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, addressed a joint parliamentary session and engaged with the diaspora, highlighted India’s democratic journey and Global South partnership. The final leg in Oman commemorates 70 years of ties, strengthen the strategic partnership and deepen economic cooperation.

Prime Minister’s Visit to Jordan

Upon arrival in Amman, Jordan the Prime Minister was accorded a special ceremonial welcome. He was received by the Prime Minister of Jordan, His Excellency Dr. Jafar Hassan, reflecting the warmth and depth of bilateral relations. The visit underscored India’s commitment to strengthening ties with West Asia and enhancing engagement with Jordan as a key regional partner.

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi held wide-ranging discussions with His Majesty King Abdullah II at the Al Husseiniya Palace. The two leaders recalled the longstanding friendship between the two nations and reaffirmed their shared commitment to peace, stability and development in the region. King Abdullah II reiterated Jordan’s strong support for India in its fight against terrorism, and both leaders unequivocally condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

The discussions focused on expanding cooperation across multiple sectors. Trade and investment featured prominently, with the Prime Minister proposing a target of enhancing bilateral trade to USD 5 billion over the next five years. Opportunities for collaboration in defence, security, renewable energy, critical minerals, information technology, digital public infrastructure, agriculture, fertilizers, education and healthcare were also explored. The leaders highlighted the potential for linking Jordan’s digital payment systems with India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) to promote financial inclusion and innovation.

Several Memoranda of Understanding were finalized during the visit, covering areas such as culture, renewable energy, water management and digital cooperation. A twinning arrangement between Petra in Jordan and Ellora in India was also agreed upon, aimed at promoting tourism, cultural exchange and heritage conservation.
In honour of the visiting Prime Minister, King Abdullah II hosted a banquet dinner. Prime Minister Shri Modi extended an invitation to His Majesty to visit India, which was graciously accepted. The visit laid a strong foundation for deepening the India-Jordan partnership and further strengthening political, economic and people-to-people ties in the years ahead.

Prime Minister’s visit to Ethiopia

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi undertook his first bilateral visit to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia from 16–17 December 2025, underscoring the growing importance of India–Ethiopia relations and shared priorities as partners of the Global South.

Upon arrival in Addis Ababa, the Prime Minister was accorded a warm and colourful welcome by H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali, Prime Minister of Ethiopia, reflecting the historical friendship and deep people-to-people ties between the two nations.

During delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali, Shri Modi emphasised the centuries-old civilisational links and the shared commitment of both democracies to peace, human welfare and inclusive development. He noted the unique position of Ethiopia as the host of the African Union headquarters and acknowledged its role as a central diplomatic hub in Africa.

The leaders agreed to elevate India–Ethiopia relations to a Strategic Partnership, charting a clear roadmap for future cooperation across key sectors including economy, innovation, technology, defence, health, capacity building and multilateral collaboration. A decision was also taken to double scholarships for Ethiopian students in India, strengthening educational and cultural ties.

Prime Minister’s Engagements in Oman

During his official visit to the Sultanate of Oman on 17–18 December 2025, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi engaged with the Indian community, business leaders, and Omani partners to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and strategic ties between India and Oman.

On 18 December 2025, the Prime Minister addressed the Indian community in Oman, reaffirming India’s commitment to the welfare and unity of the overseas Indian population. He highlighted the importance of the Indian diaspora’s contributions to Oman’s growth and called for continued collaboration, pride in Indian heritage, and active participation in strengthening the bonds between the two nations.

The Prime Minister also attended the India-Oman Business Forum in Muscat, where he engaged with leading business representatives from both countries, including energy, infrastructure, green development, fintech, manufacturing, health, and financial services sectors.

The Outcomes from the visit highlighted concrete agreements and cooperative frameworks designed to deepen bilateral engagement. Notable outcomes included the India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) to enhance trade and investment flows, MoUs on maritime heritage and museums, an executive programme for cooperation in millet cultivation and agri-food innovation, and the adoption of a Joint Vision Document on Maritime Cooperation to strengthen regional security, the blue economy, and sustainable use of ocean resources. These agreements reflect a broad and future-ready agenda for India-Oman relations.

Prime Minister conferred with the Order of Oman

His Majesty Sultan of Oman Haitham bin Tarik on 18 December conferred upon Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi the ‘Order of Oman’ award for his exceptional contribution to India-Oman ties and his visionary leadership. Prime Minister

dedicated the honour to the age-old friendship between the two countries and called it a tribute to the warmth and affection between the 1.4 billion people of India and the people of Oman. The conferment of the honour during the Prime Minister’s visit to Oman, coinciding with the completion of 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, imparted special significance to the occasion and to the Strategic Partnership. Instituted in 1970 by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Order of Oman has been bestowed upon select global leaders in recognition of their contribution to public life and bilateral relations.

Prime Minister receives the highest award of Ethiopia

In recognition of his efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation, Prime Minister Modi was conferred with the ‘Great Honor Nishan of Ethiopia’, the country’s highest

civilian award, by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in a special ceremony at the Addis International Convention Centre. Shri Modi expressed humility and gratitude, dedicating the honour to all who have nurtured India–Ethiopia relations and highlighting the longstanding contribution of Indian educators to Ethiopia’s development.
