BJP National President attends 12th International Yoga Day in Punjab
Bharatiya Janata Party National President Shri Nitin Nabin joined the 12th International Day of Yoga celebration at LPU, Jalandhar in Punjab on 21 June 2026. The celebration, witnessed the grand participation of over 12,000 students, faculty members, staff, common people and public representatives from across the region, making it one of Punjab’s largest yoga gatherings. The grand celebration was observed under the global theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, the celebration highlighted yoga’s role in promoting physical vitality, mental well-being, and a healthier lifestyle across all age groups.
Lead the fight against drug abuse
Addressing the gathering, Shri Nitin Nabin said that the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 must become a shared commitment of every Indian, especially the youth, who will be the driving force behind the nation’s future. Referring to the call of “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan” given by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi from the LPU campus, Shri Nitin Nabin said that today’s youth connects itself with the spirit of Anusandhan and is actively contributing to the nation’s progress through innovation. Shri Nitin Nabin, stressed the need to advance across sectors including research, healthcare, technology and public service to realise the goal of a developed India.
Shri Nabin also called upon the younger generation to lead the fight against drug abuse, stating that a strong and empowered youth is essential for a strong nation. Urging students to remain connected to their roots, uphold the highest values of integrity and perseverance, and place the nation above all else, Shri Nabin encouraged them to contribute meaningfully towards India’s development journey.
Harmonious way of life
The celebration featured the Common Yoga Protocol, during which participants performed a series of yogic practices including Tadasana, Vrikshasana, Bhujangasana, Shishuasana, Pranayama, and meditation. The session highlighted yoga’s enduring relevance in promoting physical well-being, mental balance, and a harmonious way of life.
A special attraction of the event was the creation of large scale human formations depicting the Map of India, the sacred ‘ॐ’ symbol, and the numerals ’12’ and ‘2047’. While ’12’ marked the 12th International Day of Yoga, ‘2047’ symbolized the national vision of Viksit Bharat and India’s aspiration to become a developed nation by the centenary year of Independence. The formations reflected the spirit of unity, collective responsibility, and the transformative role of yoga in nation building.
Aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, the event also witnessed the launch of the ‘LPU Time Capsule’ initiative. Participants recorded messages and pledges reflecting their aspirations for a healthier, stronger and more developed India. These were preserved in a time capsule that will be opened in 2047 during the centenary celebrations of India’s Independence, capturing the hopes and expectations of the present generation for the nation’s future.
Several eminent dignitaries, including BJP National General Secretary Shri Tarun Chugh, Punjab BJP President Shri Kewal Singh Dhillon, MP Shri Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Member of the Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir Shri Narinder Singh Raina, Former Union Minister Shri Som Parkash, Former MoS for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Vijay Sampla, Chairman Lovely Group Shri Ramesh Mittal and others also graced the event.
