
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on May 15, 2026 marked another important milestone in the rapidly expanding India–UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The visit was highly substantive and reflected the deep trust and close friendship between the leadership of the two countries. Prime Minister Shri Modi visited the UAE as the first stop of his five-nation diplomatic tour and held extensive discussions with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi.
The two leaders reviewed the progress achieved in bilateral relations and discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, energy, technology, defence, infrastructure, and regional security. The Foreign Secretary emphasized that India and the UAE have witnessed extraordinary growth in their strategic partnership in recent years, supported by strong political trust and regular high-level exchanges.
Economic cooperation emerged as a major focus during the visit. Both countries reviewed the successful implementation of the India–UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which has significantly boosted bilateral trade and investment flows. Discussions also focused on expanding collaboration in renewable energy, green hydrogen, food security, digital payments, fintech, and advanced technologies. Prime Minister Modi invited greater Emirati investments into India’s infrastructure, manufacturing, and innovation sectors under initiatives such as “Make in India” and “Digital India.”
Connectivity and strategic infrastructure projects also featured prominently in the discussions. The leaders reviewed progress on the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), which is expected to enhance trade connectivity and economic integration between India, the Gulf region, and Europe. Cooperation in ports, logistics, shipping, and energy connectivity was also discussed.
Regional and global developments formed another key component of the talks. Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed India’s strong condemnation of terrorism and emphasized the need for dialogue, stability, and peaceful resolution of conflicts in West Asia. Both leaders exchanged views on maritime security, regional peace, and the importance of maintaining a rules-based international order.
The Foreign Secretary also highlighted the strong people-to-people relationship between India and the UAE. The Indian community in the UAE, one of the largest expatriate groups in the country, was acknowledged for its contribution to strengthening bilateral ties and supporting the UAE’s economic growth.
Overall, the visit was described as highly productive and strategically important. It reinforced the India–UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and opened new avenues for cooperation in trade, technology, connectivity, energy, and regional stability, while underlining the shared commitment of both nations toward peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.
