Shri Govind Parmar, the BJP MLA from Umreth Assembly constituency in Anand district, passed away on March 7 after suffering a heart attack. He was 72. Parmar was a four-term MLA – he had been elected in 1995, 1998, 2017 and 2022. Shri Parmar also served as a Minister of State (MoS) in the Cabinet led by the then Chief Minister, the Late Vijay Rupani, and served as the MoS for Panchayat with an independent charge. He also held the charge of the Environment Department as MoS. He had earlier served as president of the Anand district panchayat.
In an X post, Prime Minister Shri Modi condoled the demise of the leader and said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Parmar was dedicated to social welfare activities. “I am saddened by the news of the passing of Govindbhai Parmar, a member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. He was always dedicated and committed to social welfare activities. Prayers for the peace of the departed soul and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Om Shanti!” the Prime Minister wrote.
The BJP National President Shri Nitin Nabin said while condoling the death of the leader in a post on X “Deeply saddened by the demise of Shri Govindbhai Parmar Ji, BJP MLA from Gujarat. A committed public servant, he worked tirelessly for the welfare and development of the people of Umreth. My heartfelt condolences to his family, supporters and well-wishers. Om Shanti.
In a social media post, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah said that Govindbhai Parmar was known as a tireless and dedicated politician from central Gujarat, and his loss for the state can never be filled. He added that Govindbhai Parmar was always committed to the development of the region and the welfare of every age group and class. Shri Shah said that the entire BJP family stands firmly with their family members in this hour of grief.
Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Shri Harsh Sanghavi and BJP Gujarat President hri Jagdish Vishwakarma posted on X to offer condolences following Shri Parmar’s death.
