A. Namassivayam Takes Oath as Chief Minister of Puducherry

Following the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) decisive victory in the 2026 Puducherry Assembly polls, NDA leader Shri N. Rangasamy was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Puducherry for a record fifth term on 13 May 2026. The ceremony took place at Lok Niwas in Puducherry, marking the return of the National Democratic Alliance government.

Lieutenant Governor Shri K. Kailashnathan administered the oath of office and secrecy. Along with the Chief Minister, A. Namassivayam (BJP legislature party leader) and Malladi Krishna Rao (AINRC legislator) were sworn in as Cabinet Ministers.

The event was attended by senior political figures, including BJP National President Shri Nitin Nabin, BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) Shri B. L. Santhosh, and State BJP President Shri V. P. Ramalingam.

Noteworthy, the AINRC-led NDA coalition retained power in the 30-member House. In the elections, the All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) secured 12 seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party won 4 seats. Supported by one seat each from the AIADMK and the Latchiya Jananayaga Katchi, the alliance achieved a stable majority of 18 seats to form the government.

Following the oath-taking ceremony, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi congratulated Shri A. Namassivayam and his team through a message on social media platform X. The Prime Minister stated that the new NDA government in Puducherry would work with dedication for the welfare of the people and accelerate the pace of development in the Union Territory. He said, “Congratulations to Thiru N. Rangasamy Ji on taking oath as Puducherry’s Chief Minister. He has made a mark as an experienced and effective administrator who has strengthened Puducherry’s growth journey. Looking forward to working with him for the people’s well-being. My best wishes for the tenure ahead.”

The NDA’s victory in Puducherry is a significant political development in southern India, reflecting growing public support for the alliance’s governance model and development agenda and a clear endorsement of stability, transparency, and people-centric governance. The historic oath-taking ceremony not only marked the formation of a new government in Puducherry but also symbolised the NDA’s expanding political influence in southern India, opening a new chapter in the political journey of the Union Territory.

N Rangasamy re-elected as Puducherry NDA legislature party leader

  Following the NDA’s massive victory in the recently completed Puducherry Assembly polls in 2026, incumbent Chief Minister and the All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) founder Shri N Rangasamy was re-elected as the leader of the NDA legislature party in Puducherry on 08 May 2026.

      In the same meeting, Home Minister Shri A Namassivayam was elected as the Deputy Leader of the NDA legislature party.

     A day before, Shri N Rangasamy resigned as the Chief Minister of Puducherry to Lieutenant Governor Shri K Kailashnathan at Lok Bhavan to facilitate the formation of the new government at the Union Territory.

Shri N Rangasamy

 Shri N Rangasamy is a veteran political leader and was born on 4 August 1950 in Puducherry to Shri Natesan Krishnasamy and Smt. Panchali.
 He completed his Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com) from Tagore Arts College and later obtained a Bachelor of Laws (L.L.B) from Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Puducherry, in 1977.
 He is a bachelor known for living a highly humble, monastic lifestyle, often spotted riding a simple motorized two-wheeler even during election campaigns.
 From 1991–2001 he served as a cabinet minister handling vital portfolios including Agriculture, Public Works, Education, and Tourism under three different chief ministers.
 He assumed office as the Chief Minister of Puducherry for the first time on 27 October 2001.
 He was re-elected and served a second consecutive term until August 2008.
 From 2011–2016 he led the AINRC government as Chief Minister from 2011 to 2016.
 He subsequently served as the Leader of the Opposition from 2016 to 2021.
 From 2021–2026 he was CM for the Fourth Term.
 He led the NDA to a successive victory in the April–May 2026 assembly elections, securing 18 out of 30 seats and took oath as CM for the Fifth Term.
