SUPREME COURT REFUSES TO DIRECT TRANSFER OF CONTRIBUTIONS MADE TO PM CARES TO DISASTER FUND

Supreme Court on August 18 rejected the petition seeking orders to transfer all the contributions made to the PM Cares Fund to the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF). 

• The SC said that the money from the Fund cannot be deposited or transferred.
• A bench headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan and comprising justices RS Reddy and MR Shah said that voluntary contribution can always be made to the NDRF as there is no statutory bar under the Disaster Management Act.
• However, money from PM Cares Fund cannot be transferred to it, said the court.
