A book chronicling the life and legacy of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, titled ‘Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee: Ek Shikshavid Ki Rajnitik Yatra’, was officially released on June 1 at the NDMC Convention Center in the national capital in a conference organized by the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Research Foundation (SPMRF) and saw the presence of prominent political and academic personalities.
Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, along with Tamil Nadu BJP Vice-President Prof. P. Kanagasabapathi, jointly unveiled the book. The volume is authored by Shri Vikash Anand, Associate Editor of Kamal Sandesh, and has been published by the reputed publishing house Vani Prakashan.
The book explores the remarkable life of Dr. Mookerjee, an eminent educationist and political leader, who played a significant role in shaping India’s nationalist discourse. Through well-researched narratives and detailed analysis, the book presents Dr. Mookerjee’s contributions to the country’s political evolution, beginning with his early academic achievements to his eventual establishment of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, which laid the ideological foundation for today’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The book not only highlights Dr. Mookerjee’s academic brilliance and his tenure as the youngest Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta but also delves into his firm opposition to the appeasement politics of his time, his principled resignation from Nehru’s cabinet over the Nehru-Liaquat Pact, and his historic role in demanding full integration of Jammu and Kashmir into the Indian Union.
Dr. Mookerjee’s mysterious death in 1953 while in custody in Kashmir remains one of the most debated political episodes in India’s history. The book addresses these events with academic rigor and presents various perspectives to enrich public understanding.
