Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the Annual NCC PM Rally at the Cariappa Parade Ground in Delhi today. Greeting the gathering on the occasion of NCC Day, the Prime Minister said that the efforts of NCC, NSS cadets, tableau artists, companions from the National Rangshala, and young participants from across the country were clearly visible in their coordinated performances. Shri Modi noted with grief that the day also brought great sorrow due to the tragic plane crash in Maharashtra this morning, which claimed the lives of Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Ajit Pawar ji and some colleagues. He highlighted that Ajit Dada made a significant contribution to the development of Maharashtra and the nation, especially by working to improve village life, and expressed condolences to Shri Ajit Pawar ji’s family. He stated that in this moment of pain, the nation stands with the families of those lost in the accident. The Prime Minister, amidst these moments of grief and condolence, extended greetings to all cadets present, including those from friendly nations, and acknowledged the large participation of girl cadets this year.

“NCC is a movement that makes India’s youth confident, disciplined, sensitive, and dedicated citizens of the nation”, highlighted Shri Modi, emphasising that every year cadets are strengthening their role further. He highlighted that the number of NCC cadets has increased from 14 lakh to 20 lakh in recent years, with significant growth in border and coastal areas.

The Prime Minister underlined that NCC is a platform where youth live their heritage with pride, citing the celebration of 150 years of Vande Mataram with great enthusiasm across the country. He pointed to the Paramveer Sagar Yatra as an excellent example, recalling that a few years ago the government named 21 islands of Andaman and Nicobar after Paramveer Chakra awardees, and the cadets carried forward this spirit of honoring national heroes through their sailing expedition. Shri Modi also highlighted that in Lakshadweep, through the island festival, cadets celebrated the ocean, culture, and nature together.

Shri Modi remarked that NCC has brought history alive from monuments to the streets, highlighting the valor of Bajirao Peshwa, the skill of the great warrior Lachit Borphukan, and the leadership of Bhagwan Birsa Munda through its cycle rally, which created public awareness. He appreciated the efforts of all cadets and extended greetings to those who received honors today.

Recalling his words from the Red Fort, stating that this is the right time, the best time, the Prime Minister emphasized that today’s era is one of maximum opportunities for the youth of India. He noted that the government is committed to ensuring that young people benefit the most from this period, citing the historic Free Trade Agreement reached between India and the European Union as an example. He added that prior to this, India had signed Free Trade Agreements with Oman, New Zealand, Britain, UAE, Australia, and Mauritius, all of which are creating countless opportunities for millions of youth.

Underlining that the entire world looks towards the youth of India with great trust, Shri Modi said the reason for this trust lies in their skills and values. He stressed that Indian youth carry the values of democracy, respect for diversity, and the belief in the world as one family, which enables them to easily integrate with people wherever they go and contribute to the development of those nations. The Prime Minister remarked that these values are India’s culture and nature.

Shri Modi asserted, based on his conversations with global leaders, that Indian youth are not only hardworking but also excellent professionals, which is why they are in high demand worldwide. He pointed out that in Gulf countries, millions of Indians have been working for years, and Indian doctors and engineers are building outstanding healthcare systems and infrastructure in many nations. He also recalled that teachers from India who went abroad in earlier times added new values to societies across the world.

Prime Minister remarked that along with the contributions of Indian youth to the world, their achievements within the country are also being widely appreciated globally. He highlighted that it is because of these young people that India has become the backbone of information technology worldwide, and now their strength is driving revolutions in startups, space, digital technology, and every domain.

Shri Modi noted that the recently agreed Free Trade Agreement with the European Union is being praised as the “Mother of All Deals” and described as a global gamechanger. He emphasized that this FTA represents one-fourth of the world’s GDP and one-third of global trade, and is truly a “Freedom to Aspire” for India’s youth.

The Prime Minister underlined that this agreement with 27 countries will benefit Indian startups by easing access to funding and innovation ecosystems, while also boosting India’s creative economy in film, gaming, fashion, digital content, music, and design. He stated that the deal will create new opportunities for Indian youth in research, education, IT, and professional services.

Pointing out that the agreement is called the “Mother of All Deals” also because of its vast benefits, Shri Modi underscored it will accelerate the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign and strengthen the resolve of “Make in India, Make for the World.” He explained that under this agreement, tariffs on more than 99 percent of India’s exports will either be zero or very low, benefiting industries such as textiles, leather, gems and jewellery, footwear, engineering goods, and MSMEs. He stressed that weavers, artisans, and small entrepreneurs will gain direct access to the vast markets of 27 European countries.

The Prime Minister added that the deal will also bring more investment into India, leading to new engineering, electronics, chemical, pharma, and other manufacturing plants, while creating assured markets for agriculture, food processing, and fisheries, which will be a major opportunity for farmers, fishermen, and rural youth. Shri Modi remarked that this FTA directly connects India’s youth to Europe’s job market, creating opportunities especially in engineering, green technology, design, logistics, and advanced manufacturing, meaning new avenues are opening for Indian youth across 27 countries.

Shri Modi remarked that the government is expanding global opportunities through comprehensive reforms, and the reform express on which the nation is riding today is removing every obstacle before the youth. He highlighted that the growing opportunities before the country, combined with the discipline and values inculcated in NCC cadets, are like an added advantage for them.

Lauding the impressive tableau on Operation Sindoor, Shri Modi specifically appreciated the efforts of NCC cadets during that critical moment for national security. He noted their contributions in supporting the armed forces, organizing blood donation camps, and providing first-aid services. The PM stated that NCC training is not limited to the parade ground but also instills the spirit of “Nation First,” which inspires cadets to work with full strength for the country in difficult times. He recalled that his own sense of “Nation First” was strengthened during his time in NCC, and he expressed satisfaction at seeing the same values being learned by cadets today.

Emphasising that Operation Sindoor reaffirmed India’s strength and the valor of its armed forces, Shri Modi said it also demonstrated the advancement of indigenous weapons. He stressed that in modern warfare, the role of youth skills has increased significantly, as battles are now fought not only with tanks and guns but also in code and cloud. He warned that nations lagging in technology are weak not only in economy but also in security, and stressed that innovation by youth strengthens patriotism and contributes to national security. He noted that new opportunities are opening for tech-savvy, innovative youth in the armed forces, with defense startups excelling, Made in India drones being developed, and AI and defense innovation modernizing the forces, urging young people to take full advantage of these possibilities.

The Prime Minister mentioned that the nation recently celebrated National Voters’ Day on 25 January, and he wrote a letter to citizens on this occasion. He said that National Voters’ Day is a celebration of the responsibility and rights bestowed by the Constitution, and highlighted that India has the largest number of young voters in the world. He remarked that when young citizens turn 18 and become eligible to vote, they gain the power to shape the nation’s destiny. Shri Modi called for a new tradition in the country, proposing that NCC, NSS, and My Young India organization hold a grand event every 25 January to honor first-time voters, expressing confidence that this effort will strengthen the sense of responsibility among youth and reinforce democracy.

“A developed India is not limited to economic prosperity but also depends on the conduct of its citizens, who must prioritize their duties”, emphasised Shri Modi. He cited the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan as an example, noting that while it was initiated by the government, it was carried forward by citizens, youth and children, and emphasized that cleanliness is a habit, a lifestyle, and a value. Shri Modi urged that the spirit of civic duty must become part of daily life, and just as people want beauty in their own courtyards, they must also beautify their cities with the same spirit. He appealed to every young person present to dedicate at least one hour each week to a cleanliness-related campaign and plan some activity at a chosen place.

Prime Minister Modi remarked that he was pleased to know that under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, NCC has planted nearly 8 lakh trees, and emphasized that it is also our duty to ensure these trees grow well.

Highlighting that the greatest test of youth power is how much fitter we will be in the coming times, the PM noted that fitness should not be limited to a few minutes of exercise but must become part of our nature, with disciplined lifestyle from diet to daily routine. Shri Modi expressed happiness that NCC cadets are advancing the Fit India campaign and performing well in sports.

The Prime Minister raised the issue of obesity among youth, citing studies that suggest one in three people in India may suffer from obesity in the future, which increases risks of diabetes, blood pressure, and other diseases, with youth being the most affected group. He stressed the need for vigilance and urged reducing oil intake, reiterating his earlier appeal to cut oil consumption in food by 10 percent.

Underlining that NCC not only teaches marching but also instills responsibility as citizens, imparting skills and values that help cadets become better citizens, Shri Modi noted that the experiences gained during Republic Day celebrations further refine their personality. The Prime Minister concluded by extending his best wishes, expressing confidence that they will succeed in every test of life and continue to contribute to building a developed India.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed a gathering during the Wings India 2026 programme at Hyderabad in Telangana via video conferencing today. Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister welcomed industry leaders, experts, and investors, noting that the next era of the aviation industry is full of aspirations and India is emerging as a major player. He highlighted the vast opportunities India presents in aircraft manufacturing, pilot training, advanced air mobility, and aircraft leasing, stressing the importance of the Wings India summit for all stakeholders.

Shri Modi remarked that over the past decade, India’s aviation sector has undergone a historic transformation, recalling that air travel was once limited to an exclusive club but today India has become the world’s third-largest domestic aviation market. He pointed out that passenger traffic has grown rapidly and Indian airlines are expanding their fleets, with more than 1,500 aircraft ordered in recent years.

The Prime Minister underlined that this growth has been possible due to the government’s long-term vision, making air travel inclusive rather than exclusive, with the mission of enabling every citizen to travel easily by air. He emphasized that Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities have been connected with airports, noting that in 2014 India had 70 airports, while today the number has risen to more than 160, meaning the country has built over twice as many airports in just a decade. Shri Modi added that over 100 aerodromes have been activated and, alongside this, the government launched the UDAN scheme to provide affordable fares. He stated that as a result of UDAN, 15 million passengers—around one and a half crore—have traveled on routes, many of which did not even exist earlier.

Prime Minister Modi remarked that as India advances towards the goal of becoming a developed nation, the expansion of air connectivity is certain to multiply many times over. He highlighted that by 2047, India is expected to have more than 400 airports, creating a vast network. Shri Modi noted that the government is working on the next phase of the UDAN scheme, which will further strengthen regional and affordable air connectivity, alongside the expansion of sea-plane operations, with the aim of improving connectivity across every corner of the country.

Emphasising that the government is also focusing strongly on developing the tourism sector, Shri Modi said tourist destinations are being upgraded nationwide, and air travel becoming the preferred choice for large numbers of people. The Prime Minister underlined that demand for air travel will see unprecedented growth in the coming years, creating greater opportunities for investment.

PM stated that as India emerges as a major global aviation hub, it is essential to reduce dependence on others for aviation needs and strengthen the path of self-reliance, which will also benefit companies investing in India. Shri Modi highlighted that India is placing strong emphasis on aircraft design, manufacturing, and the aircraft MRO ecosystem. He stressed that India is already a major manufacturer and supplier of aircraft parts. The Prime Minister added that India has begun producing military and transport aircraft domestically and is moving forward in civil aircraft manufacturing as well. He pointed out India’s advantages, including its geographic position in global air corridors, unmatched domestic feeder network, and the future expansion of long-haul fleets, which together form a great strength.

The Prime Minister remarked that the day is not far when electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft designed and manufactured in India will give a new direction to the aviation sector, significantly reducing travel time. He further noted that India is working extensively on sustainable aviation fuel and is poised to become a major producer and exporter of green aviation fuel in the coming years.

Emphasising that India is undertaking numerous reforms in the aviation sector, Shri Modi remarked that as a result, the country is emerging as a major aviation gateway between the Global South and the world. He highlighted that this presents significant opportunities for investors and manufacturers connected with the aviation industry.

Shri Modi noted that India is connecting different regions and markets, with cities being linked to ports through multiple modes of transport. He emphasized that India’s aviation vision is equally focused on air cargo, and the government is working on all necessary regulatory reforms to make cargo movement faster and more efficient. He underlined that digital cargo platforms are simplifying and making the entire process more transparent, while off-airport processing arrangements are reducing the load on airports. The Prime Minister added that modern warehouses are being built to improve and accelerate cargo handling, which will reduce both delivery time and logistics costs in the future. Underlining that India is set to emerge as a major and competitive trans-shipment hub, Shri Modi urged investors to explore opportunities in warehousing, freight forwarding, express logistics, and e-commerce sectors.

Prime Minister remarked that only a few countries in the world today possess such a large scale, policy stability, and technological ambition for the aviation industry as India does. He called upon every nation, every industry leader, and every innovator to take full advantage of this golden opportunity. Shri Modi urged them to become long-term partners in India’s development journey and contribute to the growth of the global aviation sector. He concluded by inviting investors worldwide to join India’s flight as co-pilots and extended his best wishes for the successful organization of Wings India.

PM addresses centenary celebrations of Arya Vaidya Sala Charitable Hospital in Kerala

| Published on:

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the centenary celebrations of Arya Vaidya Sala Charitable Hospital in Kerala via video message today. Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister remarked that on this solemn occasion, it was a matter of joy for him to connect with everyone. He highlighted that Arya Vaidyasala has played a significant role in preserving, protecting, and advancing Ayurveda. Shri Modi noted that in its 125-year journey, the institution has established Ayurveda as a powerful system of treatment. He recalled the contributions of Arya Vaidyasala’s founder, Vaidyaratnam P.S. Varier, emphasizing that his approach towards Ayurveda and his dedication to public welfare continue to inspire.

Underlining that Arya Vaidyasala in Kerala is a living symbol of India’s healing tradition that has served humanity for centuries, Prime Minister Modi stressed that Ayurveda in India has never been confined to one era or one region; in every age, this ancient medical system has shown the way to understand life, create balance, and harmonize with nature. He pointed out that today Arya Vaidyasala manufactures more than 600 Ayurvedic medicines, and its hospitals across different parts of the country treat patients through Ayurvedic methods, including patients from over 60 countries worldwide. Shri Modi stated that Arya Vaidyasala has earned this trust through its work, and when people are in distress, the institution becomes a great source of hope for them.

“For Arya Vaidyasala, service is not merely an idea but a sentiment reflected in its actions, approach, and institutions”, said Shri Modi. He highlighted that the institution’s Charitable Hospital has been continuously serving people for the past 100 years, acknowledging the contributions of all associated with the hospital. He extended his greetings to the vaidyas, doctors, nursing staff, and all others connected with the hospital, and congratulated them for completing 100 years of the Charitable Hospital’s journey. The Prime Minister noted that the people of Kerala have kept the traditions of Ayurveda alive for centuries and are also preserving and promoting them.

The Prime Minister observed that for a long time, ancient medical systems in the country were seen in silos, but in the past 10–11 years, there has been a major change in this approach. He emphasized that now healthcare services are being viewed with a holistic perspective, bringing Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy, Siddha, and Yoga under one umbrella, and for this purpose, the Ministry of Ayush was established. Shri Modi underlined that the government has consistently focused on preventive health, launching the National Ayush Mission, opening more than 12,000 Ayush Wellness Centres that provide yoga, preventive care, and community health services. He added that other hospitals across the country have also been connected with Ayush services, with attention given to the regular supply of Ayush medicines. The Prime Minister stated that the clear objective is to ensure that the benefits of India’s traditional medical knowledge reach people in every corner of the country.

Highlighting that the clear impact of government policies is visible in the AYUSH sector, with the AYUSH manufacturing sector growing rapidly and expanding, Shri Modi highlighted that to take Indian traditional wellness to the world, the government has established the Ayush Export Promotion Council, aiming to promote AYUSH products and services in global markets, which is already showing very positive results. The PM noted that in 2014, India exported around ₹3,000 crore worth of AYUSH and herbal products, whereas now exports have risen to ₹6,500 crore, greatly benefiting the country’s farmers.

Underlining that India is also emerging as a trusted destination for AYUSH-based Medical Value Travel, Shri Modi said steps like the introduction of the AYUSH Visa are helping foreign visitors access better facilities in Ayurveda and traditional medicine.

The Prime Minister emphasized that to promote Ayurveda, the government proudly presents it on every major global platform, whether at BRICS summits or G20 meetings, where he has showcased Ayurveda as a medium of holistic health. He pointed out that in Jamnagar, Gujarat, the World Health Organization’s Global Traditional Medicine Centre is being established, and the Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda has already begun its work there. He added that to meet the growing demand for Ayurvedic medicines, medicinal farming is being encouraged along the banks of the Ganga.

Sharing another achievement, Shri Modi stated that the recently announced historic trade agreement with the European Union will give a major boost to Indian traditional medicine services and practitioners. He explained that in EU member states where regulations do not exist, AYUSH practitioners will be able to provide their services based on professional qualifications earned in India, which will greatly benefit the youth associated with Ayurveda and Yoga. He further noted that this agreement will also help establish AYUSH wellness centers in Europe, and extended his congratulations to all dignitaries associated with Ayurveda and AYUSH for this achievement.

Prime Minister remarked that through Ayurveda, India has been treating people for centuries, but it has also been unfortunate that within the country and largely abroad, efforts have been required to explain the importance of Ayurveda. He highlighted that a major reason for this has been the lack of evidence-based research and research papers, noting that when Ayurvedic methods are tested on the principles of science, public trust becomes stronger. Shri Modi expressed happiness that Arya Vaidyasala has consistently tested Ayurveda on the touchstone of science and research, working in collaboration with institutions like CSIR and IIT. He pointed out that the institution has focused on drug research, clinical research, and cancer care, and with the support of the Ministry of Ayush, the establishment of a Centre of Excellence for cancer research marks an important step in this direction.

Emphasising that now, in keeping with changing times, Ayurveda must increasingly adopt modern technology and AI, which can enable innovative approaches to predicting disease possibilities and offering treatment through different methods, the Prime Minister underlined that Arya Vaidyasala has demonstrated that tradition and modernity can move together, and healthcare can become a foundation of trust in people’s lives. Shri Modi noted that the institution has preserved the ancient understanding of Ayurveda while embracing modern needs, systematizing treatment, and delivering services to patients. He congratulated Arya Vaidyasala once again for this inspiring journey and expressed his wish that in the coming years, the institution continues to improve lives with the same dedication and spirit of service.

Governor of Kerala, Shri Rajendra Arlekar was present among other dignitaries at the event.

PM addresses the India-EU Business Forum in New Delhi

| Published on:

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the India-European Union Business Forum at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi today. Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister expressed happiness at participating in the India-European Union (EU) Business Forum. He remarked that the visit of the Presidents of the European Union Council and Commission to India is not an ordinary diplomatic tour but marks the beginning of a new era in India-EU relations. Shri Modi highlighted that for the first time, EU leaders joined as Chief Guests at India’s Republic Day, India and the European Union concluded the largest Free Trade Agreement in India’s history, and today, with the presence of numerous CEOs, the India-EU Business Forum is being organized at such a large scale. He stated that these achievements symbolize the unprecedented alignment between the world’s two largest democratic powers.

The Prime Minister emphasized that this alignment is not accidental; as market economies, India and the EU share common values, joint priorities for global stability, and natural connections between their people as open societies. He underlined that on this strong foundation, the partnership is reaching new heights and is being established as one of the most influential partnerships in the world, with clear results visible. Shri Modi noted that in the last ten years, trade has doubled to 180 billion euros, more than 6,000 European companies are operating in India, and investments from the EU in India exceed 120 billion euros. He further remarked that 1,500 Indian companies are present in the EU, with Indian investments there reaching nearly 40 billion euros. The Prime Minister highlighted that today, India and European companies are deeply collaborating in R&D, manufacturing, and services, and business leaders are both the drivers and beneficiaries of this cooperation.

Prime Minister Modi stated that now is the time to make this partnership a ‘whole of the society partnership.’ He remarked that with this vision, a comprehensive FTA has been completed today, which will provide easy access for India’s labour-intensive products to the European Union market. Shri Modi highlighted that textiles, gems and jewellery, auto parts, and engineering goods will benefit, while fruits, vegetables, processed food, and marine products will create new opportunities. He underlined that this will directly benefit farmers, fishermen, and also the services sector, particularly IT, education, traditional medicine, and business services.

The Prime Minister observed that global business is undergoing major upheaval, with companies rethinking their market strategies and partnerships. He emphasized that at such a time, this FTA sends a clear and positive message to the business world, serving as an invitation to both sides’ business communities to build capable, reliable, and future-oriented partnerships. Shri Modi expressed confidence that business leaders will fully utilize the opportunities arising from this FTA.

Shri Modi further remarked that India and the European Union share several priorities that can benefit business partnerships. He outlined three key priorities: first, in a world where trade, technology, and critical minerals are being weaponized, there is a need to jointly de-risk dependencies. He asked whether the business community can reduce external reliance in EVs, batteries, chips, and APIs, and build a shared option for trusted supply chains. Second, he noted that both India and the EU focus on defense industries and frontier technologies, urging greater collaboration in defense, space, telecom, and AI. Third, he stressed that a clean and sustainable future is a priority for both sides, calling for joint research and investment in green hydrogen, solar energy, and smart grids. PM’s Press Statement during the Joint Press Statement with President of the EU and President of the European Commission

| Published on:

Your Excellencies,
President Antonio Costa and President Ursula von der Leyen,
Delegates from both countries,
Friends from the media,

Namaskar!

It gives me great pleasure to welcome my two close friends, President Costa and President von der Leyen, on this historic visit to India.

President Costa is widely admired for his simple way of life and deep commitment to society, earning him the affectionate title of the “Gandhi of Lisbon.” President Ursula von der Leyen is a source of inspiration worldwide – not only as Germany’s first woman Defence Minister, but also as the first woman President of the European Commission.

Yesterday marked a historic moment, as for the first time, leaders of the European Union participated in India’s Republic Day celebrations as Chief Guests. Today presents yet another historic occasion, as two of the world’s largest democratic powers come together to add a defining chapter to their relationship.

Friends,

In recent years, relations between India and the European Union have witnessed remarkable progress. Our partnership, based on shared democratic values, economic synergy, and strong people-to-people ties, is reaching new heights. Today, we have trade worth 180 billion euros. More than 800,000 Indians are living and actively contributing to the countries of the European Union.

We have established new dimensions of cooperation in every sector, from strategic technologies to clean energy, from digital governance to development partnerships. Building on these achievements, at today’s summit, we have taken several decisions that will benefit all sections of society.

Friends,

Today, India has concluded the largest Free Trade Agreement in its history. It is a happy coincidence that on the 27th day of the month, India is entering into this FTA with the 27 Member States of the European Union. This historic agreement will facilitate easier access for our farmers and small enterprises to European markets, create new opportunities in manufacturing, and further strengthen cooperation across our services sectors.

Moreover, this FTA will boost investment between India and the European Union, foster new innovation partnerships, and strengthen supply chains at the global level. In other words, this is not merely a trade agreement; it is a new blueprint for shared prosperity.

Friends,

Alongside this ambitious FTA, we are also creating a new framework for mobility. This will open up new opportunities in the European Union for Indian students, workers, and professionals. We have a long-standing and extensive cooperation in science and technology. Today, we have decided to further strengthen these important linkages.

Friends,

Defence and security are a foundation for any strong partnership. Today, we are making this official through a Security and Defence Partnership. This will help us work more closely on counter-terrorism, maritime security, and cybersecurity.

This will also strengthen our shared commitment to a rules-based international order. Our cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region will grow, and our defence companies will gain new opportunities to work together on co-development and co-production.

Friends,

Based on today’s achievements, we are launching an even more ambitious and holistic strategic agenda for the next five years. In a complex global environment, this agenda will provide clear direction, advance our shared prosperity, accelerate innovation, strengthen security cooperation, and deepen people-to-people ties.

Friends,

Cooperation between India and the European Union constitutes a “Partnership for the Global Good.” We will expand trilateral projects from the Indo-Pacific to the Caribbean, thereby providing tangible support for sustainable agriculture, clean energy, and women’s empowerment. Together, we will work to establish the IMEC Corridor as a key pillar of global trade and sustainable development.

Friends,

Today, the global order is undergoing profound turbulence. In this context, the partnership between India and the European Union will strengthen stability within the international system. Against this backdrop, we held detailed discussions today on several global issues, including Ukraine, West Asia, and the Indo-Pacific. Respect for multilateralism and international norms remains a shared priority. We are united in our view that reform of global institutions is essential to address the challenges of our time.

Friends,

In the course of relations among nations, there are moments when history itself declares that this is where the direction changed, that this is where a new era began. Today’s historic Summit between India and the European Union represents such a moment.

I once again extend my heartfelt appreciation to President Costa and President von der Leyen for this extraordinary journey, for your friendship toward India, and for your commitment to our shared future.

Bharatiya Janata Party National President Shri Nitin Nabin, while addressing the ‘Kamal Mela’ programme held in Durgapur, West Bengal on Tuesday, paid tribute to Bengal’s rich cultural, intellectual and artistic heritage and underscored the decisive role of a Viksit Bengal in the resolve of achieving a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047. Before the event, Shri Nabin was accorded a grand welcome at Durgapur Airport, where party Karyakartas received him with traditional drums and music. From the airport to the venue, local residents and BJP Karyakartas gathered at several points along the route to greet him warmly with flower showers and slogans. During the programme, BJP State President Shri Samik Bhattacharya, Leader of the Opposition Shri Suvendu Adhikari, BJP National General Secretary and West Bengal in-charge Shri Sunil Bansal, senior Bihar government minister Shri Mangal Pandey, Union Minister Shri Sukanta Majumdar, Shri Nisith Pramanik, former State President Shri Dilip Ghosh, MP Shri Saumitra Khan, and several other leaders were present.

Shri Nitin Nabin noted that the fair was being inaugurated by paying obeisance to the image of Bharat Mata, and that since assuming charge as the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, this was the first time he had come to the land of Bengal and begun a programme by offering salutations to the image of Bharat Mata. The land of Bengal has been home to great leaders such as Raja Ram Mohan Roy, who gave a new identity to the entire nation and to Indian culture as a whole, and that through this fair, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar should also be remembered for taking forward issues related to the state and giving new direction not only to the state but to the entire country. On this day, poet Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore should also be remembered for establishing and reviving the ashram system of education for modern India and for founding institutions such as Shantiniketan, which have always carried forward Indian culture and Indian thought. On this day, renowned artist Nandalal Bose should also be remembered, whose art gave the country a distinct identity and whose works can still be seen in the Constitution today.

BJP National President remarked that Shri Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay gave Vande Mataram, whose 150th anniversary is being celebrated, and through which the faith of the nation, the spirit of national awakening and the freedom struggle were kept alive. This land has produced many warriors and saints, among whom the name of Ramakrishna Paramhansa is inscribed in invaluable letters, and that Swami Vivekananda, the inspiration for the youth, should also be remembered on this day. Among the many artists of this land, the renowned great actor Uttam Kumar should be remembered today, who, through his art created recognition across India and the world and established Bengal on the global stage. Kazi Nazrul Islam should also be remembered, whose efforts gave Bengal’s culture and art a distinct place, and Satyajit Ray should also be remembered on this day.

Shri Nabin noted that the efforts being made through this Kamal Mela to promote Bengal’s culture deserve heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to the entire team. Bengal’s cultural heritage has always remained at the forefront, and in the past, too, Bengal’s culture has given direction to the nation. That Bengal has been witnessed whose education system guided the entire world. Through this Mela, efforts are being made to connect the new generation with the field of art, Indian culture and Bengal’s culture, and this programme will also inspire the coming generations to further carry forward their cultural heritage. Such fairs provide a major platform to local artists and those associated with cottage industries, enabling them to conduct their business and expand their small enterprises. Through the Kamal Mela, the West Bengal unit has, on one hand, promoted culture in a better form and provided opportunities to artists, and on the other hand, offered a strong platform to small entrepreneurs as well, for which everyone deserves heartfelt congratulations.

Shri Nitin Nabin asserted that Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji always remains concerned about how Bengal should move forward. If India is to become a Viksit Bharat by 2047, then Bengal must also become a Viksit Bengal, because this goal is not possible without a Viksit Bengal. To make Bengal developed, its culture, its soil and its art must be taken forward, and today this effort is being made in that direction, for which the state unit deserves appreciation. Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji believes that youth should be provided with employment as well as new opportunities and be guided in the right direction. If today’s youth move forward in politics or in any field of society, patience is essential in their lives. Everyone is connected to the words of the leader and guide Swami Vivekananda, who said, “Arise, awake and stop not till the goal is achieved.” Today’s youth must understand that whatever their goal in life may be, they must struggle for it and continue making consistent efforts, because if the coming generation and the future are to be shaped and a Viksit Bharat by 2047 is to be achieved, the youth of today will have a very significant contribution. Shri Nabin called upon the youth to give their full contribution towards building a Viksit Bharat and a Viksit Bengal.

BJP National President expressed deep condolences for the workers who lost their lives in the tragic fire incident in Anandpur. The entire BJP family, along with its Karyakartas and their families, stands firmly with the bereaved families and will continue to stand with them, because if anyone can share the pain of each family, it is the BJP family. Shri Nabin extended his best wishes once again to everyone on the occasion of the Mela and urged the state unit to continue organising such programmes regularly. The Bharatiya Janata Party remains committed to the people of Bengal and is fully determined to take the people of Bengal forward, and the BJP will always remain concerned about ensuring the progress of Bengal’s youth and Bengal’s women.

Shri Nabin stated that this is the land of the Maa, where from Durga Navratri to the worship of Maa Kali, the culture of Bengal creates a distinct place for itself across the country. In this worship of the Maa and the reverence of Shakti, we salute the maternal power that has always carried this tradition forward. We salute the people of Bengal for, through Maa Durga, binding the entire nation together in one thread and one collective strength.
